Mrs. Louis Redstone, presi-
dent, announces that the affair
will begin at 6:45 p.m., Feb. 27,
at the Elmwood Casino in
Windsor. A cast of 50 will re-
produce songs and scenes from
the musical "South Pacific."
Commemorating the birthday
of the founder of the American
Jewish Congress, this function

for the Organization. Proceeds
are earmarked for support of
the democratic causes and ideals

Among such projects is the

young people are provided with
dormitory lodgings and meals

creative arts and citizenship.
Another is accumulation of

Scholarship Awards, in mem-
ory of the former executive di-

"THEY'LL , DO IT Every .
'Time" may be the title of a
Syndicated cartoon, but it is also
very appropo in describing the
annual dinner-dance and show
held recently by Infants Serv-
ice Group . . . The gals did it
again this year, with _another
tremendous affair in the history
books as a huge success . . .
"Surprise Package" was the
name of the show produced and
directed by Eleanor Riseman
who always comes up with an
extra-fine offering . . . It re-
volves around a shopping center
theme, the- dancing and singing
almost all a part of the idea,
and seemed as though the Liv-
ernois - 7 Mile Rd. area mer-
chants had actually hired the
Infant Service Group 'to do their
promotion for a night! . . . It is
a marvel watching the chorus
lines of ISG housewifes 'onstage,
whipping into difficult routines
with such perfection . .. Dotttie
Schwartz did a great job in
charge of choreography while
co-directing the show with
Eleanor . . Of the 1500 people
who attended, none could com-
plain of a single dull Moment
. . . From start to finish, there
was action . . . the four men
other than dancer Jack Barnes
in the show, Max Sosin, Ralph
Shook, Irving Tyner and Manny
Silverman, seen . to that along
with the very talented ISG girls
. . The only two "women" in
the show who weren't members
were Ralph and Manny . . .
dressed in hilarious fashion
while engaged in side-splitting
repetoire with Max and Irving
. . . Hats off for a job well done
to dinner-dance co-chairmen,
Mrs. Irving Rosenberg and Mrs.
Sidney Silverman.

Israel Fuel Oil Prices Jump 25%;
to Austerity Conditions
Face Return
•

(Direct JTA. Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)

JERUSALEM — A sharp rise
in government-controlled fuel
oil prices averaging 25 per cent
went in to effect Tuesday in
Israel.
The increase hit hardest at
households which are largely
dependent on kerosene on which
the price boost was 20 per cent.
Heating costs have been un-
usually high because of this
winter's severe cold.
Gasoline prices went up 30
per cent, and fuel oil was
boosted 35 per cent.
Treasury officials said the in-
creases were necessitated by' a
steep rise in tanker transporta-
tion costs after the Suez Canal
closing.
In three months, from No-
vember through January, the
government subsidized petro-
leum products with 3,500,000
pounds, in the- hope that the
transportation cost increase

would -be only temporary.
Unconfirmed rumors were cir-
culated that a 50 per cent in-
come tax increase was in pros-
pect as Israel pushed plans for
a return to austerity conditions
which might be required if the
United States clamped down on
all aid to Israel in the United
Nations deadlock over Israeli
withdrawal from the Gaza Strip
and the Gulf of Akaba positions.

U. S. Freeze on Funds May
Force Cut in Israel Budget

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — In
view of the continued freeze on
American economic aid to Israel
and of an anticipated loan from
the Export-Import Bank, the
Israel budget is likely to be cut
by 100,000,000 pounds from the
original estimate of 850,000,000
pounds.
