Israel Vice-Consul
Guest at Mizrachi
Regional Parley
BY PHINEAS J. BIRON
Did Israel gain or lose by
defeating Nasser's army in No-
•
vember 1956? It is an important
i
question the answer of which
may well spell the future posi-
tion of the Jewish State in the
Middle East . . We had oc-
casion to obtain the views of a
gifted American observer,
whose name for obvious reasons
cannot be revealed . He just
returned from a visit during
which he surveyed this very
question . . . Mr. X. told us
among other things that the
Arab States are rather alarmed
by the complete collapse of the
Egyptian army and that Nasser's
propaganda, which tried to sell
the Arabs a fairy tale that the
Egyptian defeat was attributa-
ble solely to Anglo-French in-
tervention fooled nobody . .
The rulers of Jordan, Saudi
Arabia, Lebanon and Iraq are
well aware that Egyptians are
no match for Israelis and that
no amount of Soviet arms will
change this disparity f or at
least a year. . . .
Isaac Daniel U n n a, vice-
consul of the Israel Consulate in
Chicago, will discuss the Middle
East crisis in a special children's
emergency conference of Miz-
rachi Women's Midwest Re-
gional Organization in Detroit.
Monday. The all-day conference
will occur at Rainbow Terrace.
Delegates will attend a pre-
conference reception on Sunday
evening, at the home of Mrs.
Joshua Sperka, 3824 Cortland.
Monday morning, a breakfast
meeting and workshop session
is scheduled. Mr. Unna will
speak at 2 p.m., that afternoon.
Mrs. Emil Spilman is con-
ference chairman. Mrs. Morris
Goldberg and Mrs. Samuel Bi-
coll are presidents of Sisters of
Zion and Fannie Gluck Chap-
ters, respectively, groups ac-
tively engaged in conference
arrangements.

Mother's Gefilte Fish
Now Available in Cans
for Local Housewives
Frozen gelfilte fish in cans is
now available to housewives for
the first time, it is announced
by officials of Mother's Food
Products, Newark, N. J.
The product is now being
marketed throughout the United
States, after considerable re-
search by company food ex-
perts resulted in the develop-
ment of a special method of
quick-freezing this popular deli-
cacy at the peak of its flavor.
Quick-frozen gefilte fish with
its home-like, old world taste is-
low in calories and high in pro-
tein, qualities retained by the
quick freezing method. The
cans also allow extra. conveni-
ence for storing.
Mother's has its own fish
hatcheries where choice white-
fish and other fish used in
making the product are raised.
They are flown to the Newark
plant for processing, and fresh,
whole eggs, carrots and season-
ing added. The fish patties are
then frozen in their own golden
natural-jelling broth.
Excellent for appetizer, can-
apes or main course, Mother's
Frozen Gefilte Fish is now on
sale in groceries, supermarkets,
specialty shops and delicates-
sens everywhere. -

Israel's Sinai victory achieved
one thing . . . No Arab army
will dare to attack the Jewish
State unless assisted by Russian
manpower . . . And since it is
generally believed that Russia
is not ready to risk a third
World War at this time, Israel
is secure for the next twelve
months. • . .
What would constitute real
protection for Israel in the fu-
ture? . . . Military experts in
Europe and Washington think
the most rapid build up of west-
ern power in the Middle East
could be achieved. (1) By in-
viting Israel to join NATO and
to back her to the limit in the
Middle East . . . (2) American
pressure- on Nasser to restore
the Canal and come to a settle-
ment with Israel . . . (3) An
immediate NATO declaration
that any attack on the Middle
East by Russia—direct or indi-
rect—will be considered a hos-
tile act and will not only be
resisted locally but will mean
instant retaliation on Russia
with all our f or c es and re-
sources . . . (4) An immediate
offer by Israel to the Arabs for
as generous a settlement as she
can reasonably afford. . . .

At present- Nasser is nce
o
more calling the shots and it
looks very much as if he is go-
ing to be left in control of the
Suez . .. Yet the amazing fact
is this: Nasser's regime is politi-
cally unstable, socially reac-
tionary, economically tottering
. . Besides, his badly trained
deplorably officered and physi-
cally cowardly army is com-
pletely- demoralized since it was
beaten by Israel.
