The engagement of Bonnie
. Brown to Alan Lyness is an-
nounced by the b r i d e-elect's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Irving
Brown, of Brooklyn, N. Y. Mr.
Lyness is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Irving Lyness, of Detroit.
Both young people attend the
University of Michigan, where
Mr. Lyness will be graduated in
January and will enter the uni-
versity's law school.
The wedding is planned this
August in New York.

will service 350 patients at Ann
Arbor Veterans Hospital on

Sulie Harand to Appear
at AO Women's Lunch

Sulie Harand, described as
"everything in the theatre but
the ushers," will highlight the
annual donor luncheon for De-
troit Women of Alpha Omega
Dental Fraternity, at 12:30 p.m.,
April 10, at the Sheraton Cadil-
lac Hotel. Proceeds from the af-
fair will go toward the auxil-
iary projects, local dental aid
for indigent patients and the
Israeli dental school.
Miss Harand, known for her
Camp of the Theatre Arts for
children at Elkhart Lake, Wisc.,.
has appeared before numerous
Organizational audiences here.

After the much looked-for-
ward - to, three - day vacation,
'Lites thronged back to Central
to receive report cards and pro-
grams for the new semester.
Scholarships were given out to
January grads at the Class Day
program held last week. Dan
Slobin and Marsha Schlachter
each won two scholarships. Oth-
ers who received awards were
Joe Dennis, Alice Thompson,
Nina Sprecher, Evelyn August,
Rhoda Tatkin, Zena Wax, Bert
Pohl, Burt Faudem, Phyllis Za-
ger, Martin Berman, Pauline
Pearl and Judy Block.
Many of the scholarships of-
fered originated within the
school such as the Science Club
Award, the Senior Book Fund,
the Parent-Faculty Scholarship,
the Senior Play Scholarship, the
Student Council Scholarship and
many memorial scholarships.
Those who graduated Phi Beta
Kappa were Evelyn August,
Martin Berman, Mark Cohen,
Vivian Liber, Bert Pohl, Marsha
Schlachter, Dan S 1 o b i n, Nina
Sprecher, Rhoda Tatkin and Joe
Winograd.
The first place Blazers scored
another victory against U. of D.
High 70-42, with Louis Gibbs to-
talling 21 points and Bob Evans
and Floyd Burch each scoring
18. Today we meet Southwest-
ern at Southwestern.

JWV Signs Carter
for Annual Revue

Jack Carter, comedy star of
"Mr. Wonderful" and other
Broadway hits, has been signed
by the Department of Michigan,
Jewish War Veterans, to head-
line the cast of its Star Spangled
Revue. "That's Entertainment."
In the supporting cast of the
show, to be held Feb. 17, in the
new Henry and Edsel Ford
Auditorium, will be the Barton
Brothers, stage, television and
recording artists, and Luis
Mera, popular South American
singer. •
Lenn Borovoy is producing
the show, and has just returned
from New York, where he con-
tacted other show people who
will be signed for the produc-
tion.
"That's Entertainment" is
JWV's traditional one - for - all
fund-raising campaign. Every
departmental organization, in-
cluding the Ladies Auxiliary,
Memorial Home Association and
all posts and auxiliaries are co-
operating in the venture.
Proceeds maintain a great
number of projects for veterans
and their families, on the local,
national and international level.
Since the formation of the state
of Israel, JWV has provided as-
sistance to the Israeli Army and
veterans.
Sparking the fund-raising
drive are Harry - T. Madison,
honorary chairman; Meyer Sil-
verman and Morris Tulupman,
honorary co-chairmen; Henny
Littman, general chairman; Al
Bricker, Corrine Oppenheim
and Walter Klein, co-chairman.

Children Give Cantata
for Northwest Yeshivah

"The Jew and Music" was the
title of a cantata presented by
Yeshivah children at last Tues-
day's meeting of the Northwest
Yeshivath Beth Yehuda PTA.
The choral group was con-
ducted by Rabbi Hochler. Nar-
rators included Warren Weis-
wasser, Howard Schwartz, Shel-
don Raven, Sandra Greenbaum,
Roseanna Revich and Sandra
Duda.
Also at the meeting the or-
ganization's constitution w a s
adopted and plans were formu-
lated for elections at the next
general meeting. Mrs. Oscar
Foster and Mrs. Harry Schwartz
were hostesses.

Mrs. Moses Halperin, of
Cleveland, O., will be in Detroit
during the coming week to
spark the current membership
drive of the Detroit Council of
Pioneer Women.

ters from Monday to Thursday.

membership and organizational
procedure at meetings of all 16
Detroit chapters.

Special Meeting to Be Held
by Workmen's Circle Women
A special meeting at 9 p.m.,
tonight will be held by the wo-
men's district committee of the
Workmen's Circle. Attendants
will hear Jacob Reisman's re-
port on the recent W. C. nation-
al board of directors meeting
in New York. The talk will be
given at the W. C. Center, 11529

of Graduate . Law Fraternity
Joseph Shulman has been
elected chancellor of the De-
troit Graduate Chapter of Tau
Epsilon Rho legal fraternity.
Stanley E. Wise was named
vice-chancellor, P a u 1 Sislin,
master of the rolls and Marvin
Q. Horwitz, bursar. Their terms
of office in the international
organization will be for one
year.

Bnos Youth Groups Aid
Israel Schools Milk Fund
Over 250 people attended a
"Panorama of Plays," produced
last weekend by Bnos Youth
Groups of Agudath Israel of De-
troit. Proceeds went to the milk
funds for schools in Israel.
A by-product of the program
was a bake sale, from which all
revenues went to aid the Hun-
garian Refugee Friends, states
Mrs. Kurt Wenberg, group
leader.
