Praise Reichert for
Quitting Anti-Zionists
SAN FRANCISCO, (JTA)-
Rabbi Irving F. Reichert, a past
president of the Board of Rabbis
o f Northern California, w a s
warmly praised by the board for
his recent resignation as a vice
president of the American Coun-
cil for Judaism.
The message of the rabbini-
cal group praised Rabbi Reich-
ert "for his courageous dis-
closure of the untenable con-
duct in specific policies" of the
anti-Zionist organization. In his
resignation Rabbi R e i c h e r t
charged the Council with wag-
ing "a private war" against
Israel.
Archbishop of Canterbury
Welcomes 2 Israeli Rabbis
LONDON, (JTA) — Rabbi Is-
sar Yehuda Unterman, Chief
Rabbi of Tel Aviv, and Rabbi
Israel Rosenberg, Deputy Min-
ister of Social Welfare in the
Israel Government, were re-
ceived by the Archbishop of
Canterbury. They presented him
with a special Hebrew edition
of the Bible.
Memory is that which makes
us young or old.
Ne•
Lipsky, veteran Zionist leader,
declared at a dinner given in
his honor at Hotel Pierre. The
occasion was his 80th birthday
and marked his contributions
to the development of the Zion-
ist movement.
The proceedings of the United
Nations, Mr. Lipsky told the
distinguished audience of Jew-
ish leaders from all walks of life
who attended the dinner, give
the impression that "Israel lives
in the United Nations in a state
of isolation and under calculated
discriminations. It is a humili-
ating exhibition of a lack of
fairness and statesmanship. It
reveals behind the mask of di-
plomacy, ominous ambitions and
aggressions."
The American Zionist leader
pointed out, however, that there
is a democratic world which
sympathizes with "the ideals
and achievements of Israel and •
is not misled by the artifiCes
that hide the real ambitions and
purposes of the corporate poli
tical bodies constituting the
membership of the UN. There is
a liberal world that appreciates
the moral values of the sanc-
tuary created by Israel for the
reception of refugees from the
persecutions and hatreds gener-
ated and fostered by the same
states who, many of them, prate
in the UN of peace and justice
and who would apply sanctioins
eagerly against a small state like
Israel by closing their eyes
tight to the wrongs they them-
selves and their favorites pursue
year after year, decade after
decade."
Tributes to Mr. Lipsky were
paid at the dinner by Dr. Na-
hum Goldmann, Dr. Israel Gold-
stein, Meyer Weisgal and others.
Mrs. Rose L. Balprin, acting
chairman of the Jewish Agency,
presided at the affair, which was
arranged by a committee repre-
senting -presidents of major
Jewish organizations.
