Meyer Levin to Speak
in Book Review Series

Meyer Levin, author of the
new best seller, "Compulsion,"
will be in Detroit on Feb. 6 as
the guest of the Sisterhciod of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
He will appear at the Sister-
hood's concluding "Book-of-the-
Brunch Club" program at 10
a.m., in the synagogue social
hall.
Mrs. Samuel Croll, chairman
of the book review series, states
that Mrs. Morris Adler will re-
view Levin's new book. The
author will speak at a discus-
sion period to follow.

Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Mackey,
of 18045 Roselawn, were honor-
to ORT National Board

At the recent biennial nation-
al ORT convention in New York
the following Detroiters were
-elected to the national board of
directors:
Mrs. Harry Becker, Louis
Berry, Clarence H. Engass,
Boris M. Joffe, Dr. Shmarya
Kleinman and Hoke Levin.
Prof. William - Haber, of .the
University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, was re-elected national
president of ORT. Mr. Joffe
served as chairman of the con-
vention resolutions committee.

Indoor Wienie Roast
Planned by Socialites
Detroit Socialites will hold an
indoor wienie roast on Sunday
evening, at Westown Hall, Fenk-
ell at Birwood, announces Jack
Kape, co-chairman of program
arrangements. Dancing will be
included in' the evening's enter-
tainment. A cabaret night, with
professional entertainment, is
planned for Feb. 3.

dinner for 250 guests at Holiday
Manor, were the couple's chil-
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice M.
Mackey, Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell
Feller and Mr. and Mrs. David
Gross, and their eight grand-
children.
The Mackeys were married in
St. Paul, Minn., on Dec. 30, 1906,1
and have been residents here
for the past 30 years. Mr. Mac-1
ey is a public fire insurance ad-
juster.
Out-of-town guests here for
the festivities were the Joseph
Makieskys, Mrs. Sophie Schaf-
fer, Edwin Fink, Mrs. Frances
Raport, the Jack Kohns, Edward
Firestones, Norman Finks, Er-
nest Finks, all of St. Paul; Wil-
liam Kamman, Of St. Louis
Park, Minn.; and the Herman
F. Bernards and family, of Long
Island, N.Y.

JACK BALAMUT

In a recent ceremony, Ra-
chelle Kane was united in mar-
riage to Jack W. Balamut. The
wedding was • solemnized in the
home of the bride's grandpar-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Abrams, with Rabbi Jacob E.
Segal officiating.
The bride, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Kane, chose a
gown of tier-on-tier rose Pointe
lace, which fell to cocktail
length. Her Juliet cap was
trimmed in lace and seed pearls,
and held ill place her shoulder-
length veil of imported French
illusion, She carried a white
orchid on a prayerbook.
Mrs. Harvey Kahn, aunt of
the bride, was matron of honor
The bridegroom, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Hyman Balamut, was at-
tended by his brother, Michael
Balamut, as best man.
Following the wedding, the
couple left for a New York
honeymoon, after which they
are residing at 13231 S. Norfolk.

third annual square dance Sun-

headline a program arranged
jointly by the _six Conservative
Sisterhoods of Detroit.
Mrs. Krauss is • associate na-
tional chairman of Torah Fund
for the National Women's
League of the United Synagogue
of America.
According to Mrs. Irwin Le-
vine, president of the De-
troit Area Council of the Wo-
men's League, the event .will
be held at 12:30 p.m., in Adas
Shalom Synagogue.
Participating in the program
will be members of the Sister-
hoods of Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue, Beth Aaron Synagogue,
Cong. Bnai Moshe, Cong. Aha-
vas Achim, Evergreen Jewish
Congregation and Cong. Shaa-
rey Zedek.
Besides the address by Mrs.
Krauss, a Torah rally is planned
by Mrs. Max Goldsmith, Detroit
area Torah chairman, for the
Jewish Theological " Seminary.
Mrs. Sidney Weinberg is in
charge of the program.
