A temporary, experimental
policy of the Jewish Social
SerVice Bureau, adopted in
1954, has become permanent
with the announcement _that
fees will be charged for all
JSSB counselling services.
The announcement, made by
the JSSB board, stated that fees
will be based on ability to pay,
as graded by income and size
of family, and will range from
$1 to a maximum of $10 for a
single week's counselling.
Types of services for which
fees are charged include per-
sonal and family counselling,
child placemen t, adoption
studies, service to aging, home-
maker service, psychiatric and
psychological consultations and
migration cases.
Resettlement cases, relief
cases, transients and interviews
with children of aging clients
arranged at the case worker's
request will remain on a no
charge basis, and all services
will be free to those who cannot .
afford to pay.
The new fee policy, according
to Harold Silver, executive di-
rector of JSSB, reflects the
changing role of services to the
community.
Today's emphasis is on family
and personal problems which
with the poor. Financial aid
affect the well-to-do equally
cases, once the main respon-
sibility of JSSB, have virtually
ceased, Silver said.
The fee schedule will make
JSSB's service available to a
broader section of the com-
munity, many of whom hesitate
to use a free service, and will
increase the agency's amount of
self-support, Silver added.
JSSB receives 80 per cent of
its budget from the Torch
Drive and the Allied Jewish
Campaign.

Mr, John H, Stewart, President
Twin Pines Farm Dairy
8445 Lyndon Avenue
Detroit 38, Michigan
Dear Mr, Stewart:
Our sincere thanks to your organization for your fine
cooperation in producing Cholev Yisroel (ritually supervised ,
milk) for over a year at our request so that the desire of
the Jewish population for such a product could be tested,
We know that the production of this. milk presented many
new problems for the dairy, and we appreciate your patience
in meeting and solving these problems as they arose.
Though the demand for Cholev Yisroel at this time has not
reached a volume that permits its continued production, we
feel that you have demonstrated Twin Pines' deep sincerity
in doing everything in your power to be of service to our
community,
We thank you in behalf of all the memberi of our Council
and of the congregations they serve,
Sincerely,
Cholev Yisroel
