Rose Heilbrom is Named British Woman of Year

LONDON (JTA) — The Daily
Mirror, which has the largest
circulation in Britain, has named
Rose Heilbron "Woman of the
Year."
Miss Heilbron, in private life
Mrs. Nathaniel Burstein, is one
of Britain's most brilliant crimi-
nal lawyers. She made English
history earlier this year when
she was appointed to the bench,
the first of her sex to be named
a judge in this country. She was
named Recorder of Burnely, the
equivalent of a chief magis-
trate.

Miss Heilbron, 42 and the
mother of an eight-year-old girl,
was the second woman in Eng-
lish history to be named King's
Counsel, the first worndn to act
as chief defense Counsel in a
murder trial and the first
woman to plead a case in the
House of Lords, the final court
of appeal in Britain.
