Frank J. Winton was unani-
mously' re-elected president of
the Detroit Chapter, Brandeis
University Associates, at a re-
cent meeting of the board of
trustees of the organization.
Elected with him were Ches-
ter Cohen, Morton Scholnick
and Myron Unger, vice-presi-
dents; Frank Birnbaum, secre- -
tary; Al Taubman, assistant
secretary; Morton E. Harris,
treasurer; and Saul Dunitz, as-
sistant treasurer.
The trustees decided also to
change the name of the position
held by James M. Wienner from
executive secretary to executive
director.
The Brandeis Associates pro-
vides social and cultural pro-
grams for its membership, de-
signed to interest them in Bran-

Unearth Synagogue, Mikvah
from 12th Century

COLOGNE ,(JTA) — Excava-
tions in the center of the old
city here have unearthed the
remains of an historic syna-
gogue and Mikvah (Jewish ritu-
al bath), believed to be of
twelfth century origin. Both
buildings were once located in
the center of the medievaLJew-
ish community here.

to Assist in CARE's $1 Food Crusade

Nine well last week. The well
is located in the Heletz oil
field, Israel's first paying field.
Oil production in the Heletz-
Negba area now exceeds 1,000
barrels per day, it was learned
in the latest report from Israel
0 i 1 Prospectors Corporation.
This figure is -double the pro-
duction of two months ago.
T-ne report predicted that pro-
duction of crude oil would be at
the rate of 1,600 barrels per
rise to 5,000 barrels per day by
day by year-end, and would

producing slightly less than five
per cent of crude requirements.
