JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Israeli I circles complain that neither the United Nations nor the Great Powers have shown sufficient energy or effectiveness in halt- ing Egyptian brutality and per- secution of the Jews. Each new party of Egyptian Jews which arrives outside Egypt provides new evidence that both the Egyptian government and highly placed Egyptian officers • are robbing evacuating Egyptian Jews. One way in -which the Egyptians rob the Jews is by inducing them to buy Thomas Cook travelers checks at ex- Impose Heavy Sentence for Anti-Semitic Slur FRANKFURT, Germany (JTA)—An elderly German who shouted a n t i-Semitic epithets after a brawl -with a Jew has been sentenced to five months' imprisonment. The Superior Court here has confirmed the sentence on Franz Kroner, one of the heaviest ever imposed in Germany in such a case, on the grounds that the remarks the defendant shouted "are so appalling and reveal so base a disposition that the length of the sentence should stand." The Association of Jewish communities of Hesse had ap- peared as a co-plaintiff in the case. orbitant prices. When the refugees arrive outside, how- ever, they find that the checks are worthless because the Nasser regime has taken over Cook offices in Egypt. Other expellees report that Egyptian officers obtain lists of Jews to be expelled and then force them to sell all or most of their property for next to nothing, or face beatings and jail. United Nations Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and Maj. Gen. E. L. M. Burns, commander-in-chief of the UN Emergency Force in Egypt, have both told Israeli author- ities that there is no way of preventing the entry of Egyp- tian forces into the Sinai Pen- insula in the wake of the UNEF units which are taking over from the evacuating Is- raeli troops. This was learned in authoritative circles here. Zalman Aranne, the Minister of Education, told the Knesset. Replying to an interpellation dealing with a recent concert by the Israel Phiharmonic Or- chestra from which a work by Richard Strauss, a pro-Nazi, was dropped. Aranne asid the ministry had advised against inclusion of the Strauss piece but had not banned it. Asked further whether such perform- ances would not hurt and insult the families of victims of Nazism, Aranne said that while there is unanimity of feeling over composers who are anti- Semitic or pro-Nazi, there is no sense to a ban on the notes which., once Created, have an existence of their own. Council in Clinton was jailed this week for 30 days by an irate judge for distributing anti- Semitic literature in a Federal courtroom. . The incident occurred when 16 segregationists from Clinton were arraigned before Federal Judge Robert L. Taylor on cri- minal contempt charges for in- terfering with orderly integra- tion at Clinton High School. As the defendants were being arraigned, Joseph Diehl, 43, be- gan to pass out a sheet contain- ing pictures of many prominent Jews and the allegation that "Asiatic-Marxist Jews Control Gentile World." Diehl, a farmer with an eight-grade education, has long mixed anti-Semitic propaganda with his anti-segre- gationist activities. (The New York Times report- ed this week that "a noticeable theme of the White Citizens Council followers in Clinton throughout the turmoil has been anti-Semitic.") Wrestling Coach By HAROLD V. RIBALOW Yeshiva University, winch in its quiet way does all right in sports, has announced that Mor- ton Schlein has been named wrestling coach at the Univer- sity. The drama in this tale is that Schlein, 23, enjoys only partial vision in one eye. Never- theless, he was a collegiate wrestling champion at Ithaca College and was undefeated in two years of matches. He at- tended the New York Institute for the Blind for his elementary and high school education be- fore studying at CCNY and Ith- aca College. He also has been working as director of physical education at the Institute in the Bronx, where his coaching abi- lities first won him attention. Yeshiva will engage in seven intercollegiate matches this year, as against three last year. Here, too, we have a story of hope, and we shall watch with interest the accomplishments of the Yeshiva boys under the tutelage of Schlein. - (Copyright, 1956, JTA, Inc.) propaganda campaigns here against Israel, Britain and France, Rene Keller, govern- ment spokesman, revealed. Switzerland has a reputation for clamping down on foreign- ers who do not respect her neu- tral status. Keller admitted under ques- tioning that an investigation had been launched of a champagne party given by Arab diplomats for foreign newsmen with the exception of British, French and Israeli correspondents. The newsmen were shown films and given pamphlets which allegedly showed Israel and Allied troops committing atrocities. Later, friendly corre- spondents were approached with offers of free trips to Cairo.
