Norma Varnen to Wed Vacation Programs for Center Juniors Aug.11WeddingDate
Roy Gealer on June 29 to Include Special 'Winter Fun Fest' Told by WSUS'tudents

MISS NORMA VARNEN
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Varnen
of Stahelin Rd., announce the
engagement of• their; daughter,
Norma, to Roy L. Gealer, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gealer,
of N. Northfolk Ave.,
Mr. Gealer is a graduate of
Wayne State University and is
now attending the University
of Michigan for his doctors
degree in chemical engineering.
A June 29 wedding is planned.

Winter fun for junior mem-
bers (6 to 12) of the Davison
and 10 Mile Jewish Centers is
planned when school adjourns
for winter vacation later this
month.
The Davison Branch has
planned a "Winter Fun Fest,"
Dec. 24 to 28, with daily activi-
ties beginning at 10 a. m. and
including a hike, treasure hunt,
outdoor and indoor games,
movies, arts and crafts, com-
munity singing, roller skating,
folk dancing and dramatics.
Also planned are trips to
Camp Tamarack and the Ford
Rotunda. Children should bring
lunches daily, and there is a
charge for the special pro-
gram. For information, call Irv-
ing Zeitlin, WE. 3-7380.
Members at the 10 Mile
Branch are invited to bring
guests to an open house plan-
ned for 10 a. m. to 3:30 p. m.,

to' 6-8 and 9-12 groups, with

King-Size Coca-Cola
Makes Debut on Market

A new king-sized, 12-ounce
Coca-Cola bottle made its bow
on retail counters here last
week, marking the soft drink's
first package change in 41 years,
reports William J. Young, presi-
dent of the Detroit Coca-Cola
Bottling Company, which sup-
plies stores here.
Launching of the new bottle
size has been underway for 10
months, and involved installa-
tion of hundreds of tons of new
bottle-washing, filling and cap-
ping equipment.
"This new package, being
marketed as a big brother to
the .6 1/2-ounce size, gives the
public 43 per cent more Coca-
Cola for their money," Young
pointed out. A shift in the pub-
lic's buying habits brought
about the new bottle.
One reason for introducing
the new package, Young said, is
the trend toward suburban
shopping, particularly in large
food stores. The emphasis on
food store buying is shown by
the fact that soft drink sales in
these stores have increased 500
per cent since 1938. He added
that today three-fourths of all
take-home sales are made in
food stores.
Introduction of the king-sized
bottle doesn't mean Coca-Cola
intends to neglect the standard
6 1/2-ounce bottle, Young said.
