Mr. and Mrs. Max Sosin, of
Marlowe Ave., announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Sally Alice, to Phillip Neuman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Neuman, of Kenburton Dr., Oak
Park.
Mr. Neuman is a graduate of
the Detroit Institute of Tech-
nology, and is affiliated with
Alpha Zega Omega fraternity.
A March wedding is planned.

JWVA Past Presidents
Form MAPPS Group

Past presidents of all auxil-
iaries of Michigan Jewish War
Veterans recently formed a so-
cial club, known as Michigan
Auxiliary Past Presidents Soci-
ety (MAPPS). Meetings will be
-held at the JWV _ Home on
West Davison.
Officers of the group include:
Norma Nolish, president; Adele
Sims, vice-president; L i 11 i a n
Fink and Eve Solomon, secre-
taries; Belle Bercowitz, treas-
urer; Ida Schultz, sunshine
chairman; and Hilda Goldberg,
publicity chairman. The ad-
visory board includes Louba
Loupiloff, Rose Cowan, Jay
.Schwartz and Bertha Schaap.
The • next regular meeting
will be on the evening of Dec.
26. All past presidents are in-
vited.

Mumford's taller boys. proved
their worth as basketball play-
ers last Friday, as they downed
Cooley, 72-45, starting this
year's season off with a bang.
Next week's contest will be
against Central • High.
Monday, the seniors exhib-
ited their unusual class colors
(red scotch plaid and charcoal
grey). It was color day. They
came dressed in these colors
and bore badges.
Bernardo Fortes, a guest
from Mexico of an ex-Mumf or-
dite, visited the Spanish Club
to speak about his native land.
To carry out the exchange
program, the Human Relations
Club has as guests members of
the same organization from
Mackenzie High School. They
gave each other helpful sugges-
tions.
We now have five all-city
swimmers in our student body.
They are: Bruce Netzer, who
broke a city record for the
100 yard breast stroke which
was held for over 15 years;
Danny Hass, Barry Shapiro,
Sherwin Conway, and Jerry
Feldstein, from our winning
medley relay team. Barry also
copped third place in the 100
yard breast stroke, and Ralph
Ryback had the fourth position
in the same event. Ralph came
in sixth in the individual med-
ley. Back in the school, the
team has elected as its hon-
orary captains Stuart Handler
and Walter Dishell.
Freya Spector, in comic:peti-
tion with speakers from north.-
west high, schools, took first
place in the Northwest District
Forensic Contest with her ora-
tion "The First Freedom." She
will compete in the city-wide
contest.
Next week, Mumfordites will
select their officers and Senate
members. Those running for of-
fice are: President, Danny Sny-
der and Barry Samuels; vice-
president, Mike Friedman and
Steve Gorelick; secretary of
the Senate, Myra Ernstein and
Carol Lewis; secretary of the
House, Gail Aug•ust and Sharon
Bez; treasurer, Ira Briskman
and Norm Moskow; 'board
members, Janet Bing and Con-
nie Lewis. •

newly-arrived Hungarian refu-
gee. ,He is Laslo Kurz, 30, who
is living temporarily with his
cousin Gustav Schimmel, at
18001 Roselawn.
Kurz arrived here with This
wife, Gisela, 24, and 15-month
old daughter, Martha, on Nov.
28. He began working this week
as a warehouseman at the
wholesale grocery_firrn. As soon
as •he acquires sufficient com-
mand of English, he will be
transferred to bookkeeping, his
actual field.
Kurz, who was chief account-
ant in a Magyarovar agricul-
tural -implement factory on the
Hungarian-Austrian border, has
been aided through the corn-
bined efforts of four Detroit
social agencies: Resttlement
Service, Jewish Vocational
Service, Jewish House of Shel-
ter and Sinai Hospital. The lo-
cal agencies are cooperating
with. United Hias - Service,
which has set up a reception
station for JeWish Refugees in
Vienna.
