South Africa Orders
Rabbi to Leave Country

JOHANNESBURG (JTA) —
Rabbi Andre Ungar, who came
to this country two years ago
to minister to the Reform Con-
gregation. of Port Elizabeth, has
been informed by the Interior
Ministry that he must leave the
country by Jan. 15. His tem-
porary residence permit has
been withdrawn.
Although no reason was given
for the government's action, it
is believed 'due to the attacks
by Rabbi Ungar on government
policy. The rabbi • voiced his
opinions from the pulpit, in the
press and at public meetings.
Rabbi Ungar had already an-
nounced his acceptance of a
post abroad and his decision to
leave South Africa at the end
of January.
