Six Jews Featured in Publication Albert Einstein is one of the outstanding Jewish personages featured in In Quest of Free- dom," new publication of the United States Information Agency. The booklet emphasizes the benefits America has gained by allowing immigrants to . settle here. With individual photo- graphs and biographical sketch ,- es, it tells the success stories of 21 noted immigrants. Einstein was forced to flee Germany in 1933 because of Nazi persecution of Jews. In America, he held a lifetime pro- fessorship at . the Princeton Uni- versity Institute of Advanced Study. "His theories have been landmarks on the frontier of knowledge about the universe in which we live," the booklet declares. Felix Frankfurter, 'one of America's keenest legal minds" came from Austria. As professor at Harvard and Supreme Court judge, he was part of "the change which molded law to fill the needs of the social or- der." Joseph Pulitzer, famous for journalism, founder of the School of Journalism at Columbia Uni- versity and provider. of Pulitz- er prizes, is another Jew hailed in the publication. Also noted are Selman Waks- man, Nobel Prize winner who discovered streptomycin, Lotte Lehman, famed German lieder singer, and Samuel Gompers, first president of the American Federation of Labor. "America is richer for their coming," the publication states. A debate on the subject "Marriage: Past and Present," between Robert Briffault and Bronislaw Malinowski, is incor- porated in an interesting book under the debate subject title, published by Porter Sargent (11 Beacon St., Boston 8). The volume was ably edited by Prof. M. F. Ashley Montagu, a pupil of Malinowski, who also wrote an introduction. The value of this witty debate will be better understood from the following quotations: —"the double standard of morality must go. Either man must allow: his mate the same freedom he has always been granted; or else we must base a new charter of strict conduct for both sexes alike on mutual trust, respect, and understand-_ ing."—Malinowski. —"certain features of our marriage institution . . while they make husband and wife one, seem to provide that the husband shall be that one- Briffault. —"the fight in defence of marriage is nowadays on two f r o n t s: parental communism versus the family, and sexual communism versus marriage." —Malinowski. —"The savage father is, in my experience, considerably fonder of children than is the average English father, but he does not reward them with a possessive feeling, and is equally fond of them whether they are or are not his progeny."—Brif- fault. —"women will have the last word in deciding what the fu- ture of marriage is to be, even as they probably always had the first say in matters of love, marriage, a n d parenthood."- Malinowski. —"Most men would consent to be drones easily enough, but no sound social order can allow them to do this."—Malinowski. —"I believe that no . human impulse is so deeply rooted as the maternal impulse in women; I believe that it is institutional; and I believe that it is bound up with the institution of mar- riage."—Malinowski. ,a1M•11111111111 11•• WORCESTER, Mass.
