BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY

BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY has been founded by
Americans and is built at Ramat-Gan (near Tel
Aviv), Israel. Its organization, physical plant and
program has been planned by American academic
personnel and its Faculty consists largely of such
persons. Generous provision has been made for
American studies and the exchange of students and
faculty between BAR-ILAN University and Am-
erican Institutions is encouraged.

The BAR-1LAN UNIVERSITY was launched
under the auspices of the MIZRACHI ORGANIZA-
TION of AMERICA. Its appeal and objectives
transcend the interests of any one organization in
Jewish life. Thus, BAR-ILAN bears testimony in
Israel to democracy and Jewish Tradition upon
which high education rest and which they must
cherish.
The first group of buildings on the University
Campus with facilities for 200 students and a faculty
staff of 40 Educators from the United States and
Israel is already functioning under the able Leader-
ship of Dr. Pinkhos Churgin, renowned Scholar and
Educator. Hundreds of applications from new stu-
dents must await further expansion of the Univer-
sity. In the recent struggle for Israel's existence the
Students and Faculty of the University volunteered
their services to the . Army, and American Students
not being able to join the Army because of their
American Citizenship, served in the Hospitals.

Renowned scholar and edu-
cator, DR. PINKHOS CHUR-
GIN, will be in Detroit on
Dec. 16 as the guest of Max
a n d Phillip Stollman and
-other members of Bar-Ilan
University and its academi-
cians' committee. Dr. Chur-
gin is president of the univer-
sity, which opened recently
at Ramat Gan, Israel. He will
report on the development of
the institution, which is under
the auspices of the Mizrachi
Organization of America.
