A variety of Hanukah pro-
grams are planned during the
coming week in our synagogues
by affiliate organizations and
the co mm unity's religious
schools. Following is a listing of
the events scheduled.
Temple Israel
The temple and its affiliate
Organizations are planning a
number of activities, beginning
with Hanukah Family services
today, when the new children's
choir will make its first appear-
ance before the congregation.
Rabbi M. Robert Syme will
preach the sermon on "The
Lights That We Must Kindle,"
and the Bar Mitzvah of .Leonard
Barry Lubin will be observed.
Sunday, the Young Marrieds
Group will hold a Hanukah
party for children of members,
beginning at 2 p.m., in the
youth hall. Games, movies, songs
and stories will follow the
traditional candlelighting cere-
mony.
Refreshments, favors a n d
prizes for all the children also
are planned by Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry Graef, chairmen, and Mr.
and Mrs. Bernard Goodman, co-
chairmen.
The Men's Club will hold its
_traditional latke party that
evening, in the youth center.
Members of the Sisterhood are
invited as special guests. The
childr en of the religious
school will see Hanukah plays
presented by the drama group
and directed by Mrs. Sadie
Braver earlier in the day.
From 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dr.
Leon Fram and Rabbi and Mrs.
M. Robert Syme will host the
congregation at an open house
at the parsonage recently pur-
chased by the congregation.
Beth Aaron Synagogue
At special Hanukah services
at 8:30 p.m., today, 55 new mem-
bers of the congregation will be
honored. Rabbi Benjamin H.
Gorrelick will preach on "The
Synagogue—Foundation of the
Jewish Future in America."
Cantor Ihil Gildin and the Talis-
men Quartet will officiate.
Louis Ellenson, Beth Aaron
president, will induct the new
members, who will be pres-
ented by Albert Stern, chair-
man of membership.
At a social hour to follow
services, an illuminated Hag-
gadah will be presented by the
Israel Bond Organization in ap-
preciation of congregational ef-
forts in its behalf. Mrs. Ben
Freeman is bond chairman.

Freedman, dances, sketches and
Hebrew recitations will be fea-
tured at the Hanukah program
at 1 p.m., Sunday, in the Labor
Zionist Institute. The PTA will
present "Hanukah geet" to the
youngsters.
The program is being _ pre-
pared by Mrs. Leah Shrodeck,
Mrs. Ida Oppenheim and Abra-
ham Benkel, under the direc-
tion of Movsas Goldoftas, prin-
cipal. The public is invited.
Workmen's Circle
A Hanukah program will close
the Yechidim campaign of the
Circle at 8:30 p.m., today, in the
center, 11529 Linwood. "Chana
and Her Seven Sons" will be
presented by children of the WC
School. Candlelighting, recita-
tions, readings and a• children's
chorus are planned. The public
is invited.
At 10:30 a.m., Sunday, chil-
dren of the two-day school will
present songs and recitations at
a program for parents. Nursery
youngsters are planning songs,
dances and recitations at their
program at 2 p.m., Wednesday.
The elementary -school party at
4 p.m., Thursday, will highlight
dreidels, Hanukah gelt and re-
freshments.
Adas Shalom Synagogue
Under auspices of the Chil-
dren's Theater of the syna-
gogue's religious school, two as-
semblies are planned for Sun-
day, in the school auditorium.
At the junior assembly, Alan
Linden's "Hanukah Dragnet,"
Nancy Grossman's "Hanukah
Time" and Maxwell Nadis'
`Hanukah in Rhyme" will be
offered. Nadis is director of the
theater. Socio-dramas planned
for the senior assembly will be
directed by Richard Leland and
Fred Lax. Each child will re-
ceive a gift box of candles and
a Hanukah dreidel.
Cong. Bnai David
The Sisterhood and Men's
Club will jointly celebrate the
festival with a latke party at
8:30 p.m., Thursday, in the syn-
agogue social hall. Past presi-
dents of both groups will re-
ceive special honors.
Featured on the program,
being arranged by Mrs. David
J. Cohen and Jack Graff, will
be Rabbi Hayim Donin and
Cantor Hyman J. Adler.
Evergreen Jewish Cong.
Special services are planned
for 8 p.m., today, at Ahavas
Achim Synagogue, 19190
Schaefer, when Rabbi Her-
bert S. Eskin and Cantor Is-
rael Idelsohn will officiate.
Children and friends are in-
vited at this special Hanukah
service. A social hour will
follow.
The monthly "Ask the
Rabbi" program is planned
for 9 p.m., Monday, in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Kellman, 20300 Patton. - Rabbi
Eskin will be featured.
Cong. Ahavas Achim
The annual Sunday school
party is planned for 10 a.m.,
this Sunday, in the synagogue,
when class presentations, com-
munity singing led by Mrs. Leah
Koven and other events are
planned. The Sisterhood will
provide a treat for each young-
ster attending, and will have
its gift shop open for all wishing
to purchase holiday items.
Class parties were held this
week, and school will be re-
sumed as usual at the Vernor
School on Dec. 10.
Cong. Gemiluth Chassodim
Sepecial services to celebrate
Hanukah and to dedicate a new
Sefer Torah are planned for
Sunday evening, at 4000 Tuxedo.
Rabbi Joel Litke and G.
Simon, the oldest member of
the congregation, will be hon-
ored with inscribing the last
words of the Torah, under the
direction of J. Lowie. The
Torah will be accepted by
Sigmund Lowenthal, presi-
dent, and will • be decorated
by the families of Max Blum
and Helen Rubin, who donated
the ornaments.
pHs and refreshments are- to be
highlighted. The entire commu-
nity is invited.
United Hebrew Schools
The Esther Berman Branch
PTO will celebrate the Hanukah
festival at 8 p.m., Tuesday, in
the branch auditorium. Follow-
ing lighting of the candles,
Rabbi Jacob Chinitz will speak
on "The Significance of Hanu-
kah."
Students of the dramatic club
will offer a playlet, and Israeli
dances will be performed by the
girls' classes. Parents and their
friends are invited. Latkes and
coffee will conclude the pro-
gram, which is directed by Is-
rael Elpern, school principal.
