Resigns Government Post
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — ]Dr.
Arthur F. Burns, chairman of
the Council of Economic Ad-.
visers to President Eisenhower
has resigned his post for "per-
sonal" reasons. His resignation
was accepted "with great reluc-
tance" by the President. '
Dr. Burns, who had previ-
ously been a faculty member at
Columbia University, told the
President he had remained in
the advisory position fort much
longer -than the "year or two"
he had planned when he first
joined the new administration
in 1953.
Associates said he is consider-
ing offers to return to--Colum-
bia, or to another former post,.
director of research for the Na-
tional Bureau of Economic Re-
search. He is also known to
have received bids from a num-
ber of other universities.
