9-THE DETRO IT JEWISH NEWS — Friday, November 2, 1956

FOR

ON TUESDAY; NOVEMBER

On Friday, October 31, 1952, we told you on the pages of this newspaper:

"All Americans are grateful to General Eisenhower for the military services he
has rendered hii country but he has plainly shown that he is now beyond his depth."

NoW four years and - two days later, we find no reason to change our mind.

The last yeari have taught us that the majority of the Republican Party, while
hanging on to Eisenhower's coat-tails, as a candidate, will not follow his lead as a
President. It is obvious that in the event of a Reimblican victory; the conservativeness
of the party with the Vice-President as its standard bearer, will assert its domination of
the re-elected administration, President Eisenhower to the contrary notwithstanding.:_

It is plain from the record that we cannot anticipate' constructive programs or
policies froin such an administration. In the vital area of foreign affairs, for example,
our policies have been makeshift and unimaginative, have lacked direction or pur-
pose; have antagonized our allies and shattered confidence in our leadership
throughout the whole world.
Moreover, the present crisis. in the Middle East is a prime example of the results
of the administration's pursuit of rigid. policies and its inability to foresee problems
or develop programs which our allies can support.

ON THE OTHER HAND

The thoughtful leadership of Adlai E. Stevenson, backed up by a Democratic
Party that thinks and acts as he does, offers all of us an administration that has a
PROPER- conception of the role of government, an administration that protects the
Opportunities for all of us rather than fencing off a privileged area for a few and an
administration whose foreign 'policy will be understanding of the views of our allies
and will restore to us a position of leadership in the free world.

WE BELIEVE. THAT .

Adlai 'E. Stevenson offeri- the American people a forward looking, progressive,
forthright approach to the problems we shall face in the years ahead. That is why we
are voting . and urge you to vote for-Adlai E. Stevenson on November 6th.
