Form Local- Committee to Publish Book by Rabbi L. Y. Goldman _ Announcement was made this week of the formation of a local committee for the publication of a book writen by Rabbi Leo -Y. Goldman. The title is "Aris- .totle's Metaphysics and Mai- ponides' Philosophy." Louis Rose has been named committee chairman, Louis Berry will serve as co- chairman, and Max Bonin as s e cretary. Other mem- bers include Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brown, Julius Feigel- man, Peter S. Goldstein, Abe Kasle, Meyer Levin and Morrie M e n - Rose delson. Rabbi Goldman, spirit ua 1 leader of Northwest Israel Syn- agogue, discusses in his book the differences between Juda- ism and Aristotelianism — the reconciliation of which was Maimonides' chief problem. The book explains Maimo- nides' general views and princi- ples in relation to God, world, the life of 'man and his goal. - . Temple Beth El Greets 167 New Students • Newly-enrolled children in the kindergarten and first grade of the Temple Beth El Religious School were consecrated at spe- cial services last Sunday, in the temple. Dr. Richard C. Hertz and Rabbi Sherwin Wine blessed the 167 youngsters, who received miniature Torahs as gifts from the congregation. The presenta- tion was made by John C. Hopp, congregational vice - president, and Burton Friedman, chairman of the religious school commit- tee. . The traditional ceremony of handing down the Torah from generation to generation was performed by Benjamin Wilk, president, his daughter, Mrs. William Harris and granddaugh- ter, Patricia. Special music was rendered by the religious school choir, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Jason H. Tickton. Temple Israel to Open Adult Study College Temple Israel opens its Col- lege of Jewish Studies on Mon- day night. At the college, founded by Dr. Leon Fram, three courses will be featured. Jewish history, from 8 - 9 p.m., will be taught by Dr. Fram,. who has been conduct- ing such a class for 30 years in this city. Beginner's Hebrew, at the same hour, will be giv. en by Rabbi M. Robert Syme. From 9-10 p. m., Rabbi- Syme will conduct a Bible course. In addition to regular classes, special lectures by experts on problems of American Jewish life will be sponsored. The pub- lic is invited to enroll in . the College, for which a small reg- istration fee is needed. Ahavas Achim Schedules Classes for Young - Old Over 400 children have en- rolled in the Ahavas Achim Religious School to provide the nucleus for an extensive educa- tion program for the youth and adults of the congregation. In addition to two sessions meeting eahc Sunday at Vernor School, there is a class of 20 girls studying for confirmation and a Bar Mitzvah Club for boys 12 to 15, the latter meeting at 9 a.m., Sunday, for services, breakfast and study.
