Furniture Men Begin Unofficial Opening of Histadrut Campaign

While the Detroit Histadrut
Campaign will not open offici-
ally until Nov. 11, at least one
group in the campaign structure
plans to complete a goodly
share of that work before the
opening.
The Histadrut Furniture Divi-
sion, traditionally the vanguard
Of the campaign, met last Sun-
day to adopt a goal of comple-
tion of one assignment by the
time the Nov. 11 drive begins.
Meeting in the Detroit Furni-
ture Club as the guests of Na-
than H. Shecter and Jack Mal-
amud, the furniture men were
called on .to provide "major"

therapeutic and diagnostic
equipment for- the Kupat Holim
clinic at Rishon L'Zion, Israel.
The clinic was built originally
with $60,000 raised by the local
group.
Speaking briefly to the divi-
sion was Morris L. Schaver who

described conditions in Israel
presently. He had just returned
from a summer-long visit to the
Jewish state.
Before adjourning, division
leaders scheduled its first re-
port meeting for 11 a.m., Oct.
21, in the Furniture Club.

National Histadrut Drive Sets $5,500,000 Goal

ATLANTIC CITY (JTA)—A
$5,500,000 goal for next year's
campaign was set here by the
board of governors of the
American Histadrut Appeal.
The meeting, attended by
representatives from all over

the country, heard a report by -
Dr. Dov Biegun, executive sec-
retary of the National Commit-
tee for Labor Israel, who re-
vealed that last year's campaign
registered an increase of 22
per cent over the proceeds of
the year before.

Arab 'Big Four' to Draft Protest

LONDON — An "emergency
meeting" of representatives of
Egypt, Syria, Lebanon • and
Jordan took place Tuesday in
Cairo to consider "collective
measures" against Israel in con-
nection with Israel's retaliatory
raid on Jordan last week, a
cable from Cairo reports.
-Simultaneously, representa-
tives of the four Arab states met
in Beirut to draft a protest to
the United Nations against
"Israeli aggression."
A report from Damascus said
that Iraq has stationed a mobile

division near her Jordanian
frontier in preparation for send-
ing troops into Jordan- to help
the Jordanians "resist Israel's
aggressions."

"Hadassah Month" in New York
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
month of October was pro-
claimed Hadassah Month in New
York City at ceremonies at City
Hall. The proclamation was
signed by Mayor Robert F.
Wagner. A New York City Flag,
hand-embroidered by trainees
at a Hadassah vocational school
in Israel, was presented to City
Council president Abe Stark.
