Bonds Build New Homes in Negev At the settlement of Dimonah in the Negev—the southern terminal of the Israel Bond-aided Beersheba-Dimonah highway —workmen put stone facing on the frame of a new home. Bond funds have contributed greatly to adding 135 new settlements and proving homes for over 45,000 new settlers in the five years since the inception of the Israel Bond campaign. Religious Bloc Ousted from Coalition in Jerusalem; Name New Deputies JERUSALEM (JTA) — This city has a new ruling coalition and two _new deputy mayors following a widespread re- alignment in the bitter fight carried on by Religious Bloc members of the Municipal C _ ouncil. The battle followed the TOPS It *IN QUALITY AND TASTE issuance of a building permit to the Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion- sponsored American School of Archeology. The religious leaders based their fight' on the fact that Reform services are to be held in the school library. The city's Municipal Council has been run by a Mapai-Religious Bloc co- alition until • the school fight, but that broke down when the building permit was voted. The two new deputy mayors are Dr. P. Jacoby, a Progres- sive, and Rahamin Kalentar, a former member of Hapoel Hamizrachi who broke with his fellow members of the religious group to support Mayor Gershon Agron, of Mapai, in . his stand. They will replace Moshe Gewirtzman, of Hapoel Hamiz- rachi, - 'who resigned, and Rabbi Moshe Porush, Agudist, who was unseated by a margin of 11 votes in a showdown with Mayor Agron. The new coalition has the support of 11 of the 21 mem- bers of the Council: Mapai, 6; Progressives, 2; Achdut Avodah and WIZO, 1 each; and Kalen- tar. At the same time, the Re- ligious Bloc moved to discipline Kalentar by announcing he no longer represents Hapoel Hamiz- rachi on whose list he was elected to the Council. Later, the Council acted to replace temporarily Mr. Agron who will leave shortly for the U.S. to participate in the Israel Bond Drive. In • his absence, Deputy Mayor Ish-Shalom, of Mapai, will be Acting Mayor.
