that an Israel steel plant had
secgred orders for steel pipe
valued at $2,500,000 from Am-
erican oil companies. It is be-
lieved to be they largest single
contract ever won in the
United States by an Israel in-
dustrial firm.
The contracts were obtained
by the Middle East Tube Com-
pany, of Acre, for delivery of
13,600 tons of electrically
welded six-inch pipe. The or-
ders were placed after a trial
shipment of the Israel product
was found to conform to Am-
erican standard quality re-
quirements and after the Zim-
Israel Navigation Company had
quoted competitive freight
charges.
To comply with the contract
conditions, the Acre firm has
gone on a three-shift basis,
working around the clock to
produce the pipe on schedule.
The first 500 'tons of pipe will
be unloaded at Houston, Tex.,
next week f r o m the Zim
freighter S. S. Dagan.
