Postal _Jargon
It seems that the U. S. Post
Office employees have a jargon
or special language all their
own. One of the most unusual
terms is "NIXIE," mail that
can't be delivered because the
address is illegible or incorrect.
"HOT MAIL" is only mail en-
titled to preferential service,
such as a special delivery letter.

Ben-Zvi Leads Tribute
to Jewish Legion_ Hero

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—President
Itzhak Ben Zvi of Israel, who
served as a private in the "First
Judean" battalion of the Jewish
Legion in Palestine during the
First World War, paid tribute
to his former commander.
The President, in the pres-
ence of diplomatic representa-
tives of the Commonwealth na-
tions, participated in the dedi-
cation of a tombstone on the
grave of Lieut. Col. Eliezar
Margolin, who commanded the
39th Battalion.
Mr. Ben Zvi spoke of the sig-
riificant role of Col. Margolin

defense of the Jews of Tel Aviv

Manischewitz Gefilte
Fish Special Values

TEL AVIV (JTA)—The sixth
day of a crippling bus strike
throughout the country found
normal business activities ham-
pered and mounting irritation
on the part of the public.
Many settlements off the main
road were virtually isolated,
and in the cities, the public,
riding in trucks and lorrieS
brought in to replace the strike-
bound buses, complained
audibly. -
The halting of the bus ser-
vices followed the refusal of
the government to grant 20 per
cent fare increases demanded
by the transport cooperative
companies.
When the cooperatives re-
fused the government's counter-
offer, the government called on
the cooperatives to state their
terms for nationalizing of the

Delinquency Called
Real Israel Problem

FALLSBURG, N. Y.—A juve-
nile delinquency problem in
many ways similar to one being
experienced in American cities,
has been plaguing Israel, Dr.
I. _Solomon Rosenberg, Israeli
Deputy Minister • of Welfare,
said here, speaking at a confer-
ence of the Greater New York
Mizrachi Council.
Although the creation of gangs
in Israeli cities is "still in its
embro stage, and hopefully
will never occur," said Dr.
Rosenberg, "acts of criminality
among young people are mani-
fested in physical violence be-
tween different groups of boys."
Its causes, he explained, stem
from the great influx in recent
years of vast numbers-of immi-
grants- from a great variety of
backgrounds and cultures. The
immigrants' sudden environ-
mental changes and their early
hardship in Israel, as well as
sacrifices veteran Israelis have
had to accept in consequence of
the tremendous immigration, in
the lowering of housing, recrea-
tional and educational facilitie3,
have caused "acute disturbances
in the psychological make-up"
of both groups, Dr. Rosenberg
said.
The situation is aggravated,
he asserted, by the fact -that sec-
ondary education is not free and
public in Israel as it is in this

,

country.
