DETROIT SYNAGOGUES SCHEDULE RECORD
NUMBER OF HIGH HOLY DAY APPEALS

Michigan State Conference
Called by Religious Council.
for State of Israel Bonds

Phillip Stollman, Chairman of
the Detroit Religious Council
for State of Israel Bonds, an-
nounced today that a state-wide
conference will be held on Sun-
day, September 9th, in the Beth
Abraham Auditorium, 8100 W.
Seven Mile Road, at 1:30 p.m.
The Religious Council has ar-
ranged to have Rabbi - David B.
Hollander address Detroit and
State Jewish representatives
that afternoon at 1:30 P.M.
Rabbi Hollander, one of the
authors of a series of articles
currently appearing in the De-
troit Times, recently returned
from an historically significant
trip -behind the Iron Curtain.
His trip to Russia, with four
other American Rabbis, was the
first official meeting of United
States and Russian Jewish lead-
ers since the Bolshevik revolu-
tion.
While in Russia,- Rabbi Hol-
lander conferred with Solomon
Shliffer, Chief Rabbi of Mos-
cow, and spent much time tra-
velling in the U.S.S.R. to survey
the effects of the Stalin regime
on Jewish life there, and to dis-
cuss with other Rabbis and lay
leaders not only past privations
and restrictions laid on the Rus-
sian Jewish populace but to de-
termine the effect of the past on
the future course that Russian
Jewish life will take.
The purpose of Rabbi Hollan-
der's visit to Detroit is clear.
He will be here to give mem-
bers of our Jewish community a
complete report on his trip to
Russia and his findings while
there. His will be the first, au-
thentic, verbal report on Rus-
sian Jewry that Detroit has
been privileged to hear in al-
most 50 years.
Rabbi Hollander is from the
Mount Eden Jewish Center of
the Bronx, New York. He is a

member of the Executive Board
of the Mizrachi Organization of
AMerica, and is President of the
Rabbinical Council of America.
After being graduated from the
Brooklyn School of Law, he

pursued a course of religious
studies at the Rabbi Isaac Elch-
anan Theological Seminary from
which he was ordained. He is
a candidate for his Ph.D. at
Dropsie College and a 1>HL at
Yeshiva University.
This September 9th Confer-
ence is open to all interested
members of the community.
There is • no admission charge,
no need to make reservations.
Mr. Stollman urges that all
those planning to attend make
arrangements to be at the Beth
Abraham Auditorium as early
as possible since the Conference
will get under way promptly at
1:30 in the afternoon. Your early
arrival will assure you a good
choice of seats.

The traditional High Holiday
effort for Israel Bonds takes on
a new and vital .meaning this
year. The crisis that confronts
Israel confronts us. For eight
years Israel has stood alone in
the Middle East as the defender
of the democratic way of life,
of liberty, of the right for any
human being to live a dignified
and free existence. For eight
years she has withstood the on-
slaught of the Arab world while
the chancellories of the Western
World have given only lip serv-
ice to the support of her ideals
and aims. Now that the Arabs
have shown their true colors by
overt acts of defiance directed
toward all democracies, we re-
alize that we must act swiftly,
and in one accord, to give Israel
every measure of support that
she needs.
