Nev Road Opens Way to Dead Sea (Direct JTA Teletype Wire to The Jewish News) JERUSALEM—A new ap- proach to the road reaching to the new settlement of Ein Gheddi, Israel's northern- most outpost on the Dead Sea, was completed Tuesday, according to an announce- ment by the Public Works Department here. The road, about a mile and a quarter in length, provides easier access to Ein Gheddi, which until now has been hard to reach because it is in a hilly area. Greeting the American labor representatives at a reception here were Foreign Minister Golda Meir, Labor Minister Mordecai Namir and Mayor Gershon Agron of Jerusalem. Tuesday night, Agron was host at a dinner to the labor guests who were greeted by Minister of Justice Pinhas Rosen and E. C. Martinson, Labor Attache at the U. S. Embassy here, among others. San Francisco Jew Gives JNF $75,000 SAN FRANCISCO, (JTA) — A San Francisco Jew, Fred- erick Burstein, who had never made any contribution to the Jewish National Fund, left $75,000 to the organiza- tion in his will with the pro- vision that the money be used for helping children in one of the JNF border vil- lages in Israel. Air raid sirens sounded their warnings as planes came down to rooft6p level. All traffic was halted while all civilians except several thousand civil defense wardens were sent to air raid shelters.. As the mock air raid presum- ably knocked out water and electricity supplie s, utility workers quickly hooked up emergency tap lines. Meanwhile medical aides helped evacuate presumed wounded from build- ings which had been marked as suffering "direct hits," while firemen turned on their 'hose to extinguish mock flames. After two hours, quiet came to the city and normal activities were resumed. Civil defense leaders declared Tuesday's drill to be one bf the most successful tests of its kind yet conducted. Wilinsky, of Brook- line, Mass., has been named the recipient of the 1956 Distin- guished Service Award of the American Hospital Association. Born in Warsaw, Poland, 74 years ago, Dr. Wilinsky retired as executive director of Boston's Beth Israel Hospital in 1953.
