Out-o-town guests who will be in Detroit this weekend to
attend the Bar Mitzvah of Barry Cohen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Cohen, of 3363 Webb, will be his uncles, Max Weiner, a violinist
with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and Hyman Weiner,
who just completed two years on Broadway in "Teahouse of the
August Moon" and is now on location for RKO Pictures in Holly-
wood. Others are Mr. Isaac Helfer, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Best,
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Wenglin, Mrs. A. Leland and daughter,
Janet, and Mr. and Mrs. Hy Schneider, all of New York.
Lillian E. Fink, of 19730 Santa Barbara, is presently attend-
ing the Gift Show in New York, where she will purchase the
newest in Mah Jongg sets and adult games.
A surprise party was given Aug. 4 by Mrs. Sarah Ross and
Miss Sarah Diskin, at the home of Mrs. Ross, 17539 Northlawn,
honoring Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Coleman, of 17592 Santa Barbara,
on their 25th wedding anniversary. There were over 100 rela-
tions and friends present. Out-of-town guests were Dr. Frank
Diskin, of Muskegon, Mich.; Mrs. Jessie Tanzman, of Oceanside,
N.Y.; Morris Coleman and Miss Estelle Starckman, of Toronto;
Oscar Coleman, Charles Gorber, -William Gorber, Harry Gorber
and Herbie Gorber, of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Berman, of Indiana Ave., recently honored
the Bar Mitzvah of their son, Merrill, with a party at Darby's.
The Bar Mitzvah was observed recently at Cong. Beth Yehudah.
Mrs. Harold Van Baalen and daughter, of Birmingham, Ala.,
are presently visiting here with their father and grandfather
and family at 23560 Morton, Oak Park.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lattin and sons, Leslie and Neil, for-
merly of Ilene Ave., are now residing in their new home at 85
Reeve Rd., Rockville. Centre, Long Island, N. Y.
Mr. and Mit. Julius Schlussel (Shirley Goldstick) and son,
Larry Michael, are now residing in -their new home at 18977
Patton.
, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest M. Solomon and son, Shelby, of 19466
Greenfield, returned from -a two-week vacation in Miami Beach,
Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Schaver have returned from a several
weeks' visit in Israel.
Mrs. Rose. Shpargel and daughter, Irene, of Waverly Ave.,
will leave Sept. 1 by plane- for a two-week vacation in New
York. They will stay at the Taft Hotel while visiting their rela-
tives and friends.

be followed by study of the
mishna and a breakfast meeting,
at which Rabbi _Wohlgelernter
will speak.
The Men's Club also meets at
8:30 p.m., Monday, in the li-
brary of the Yeshivah Bldg. for
a Bible study hour. Currently
under discussion is the Book of
Kings.

Registration Begins
at Sholem Aleichem
As the Sholem Aleichem In-
stitute prepares to open its fall
term next month, special atten-
tion is being given to the forma-
tion of new classes for be-
ginners, it was announced this
week.
Registration for these classes,
for children aged five, and older
children in the higher grades,
is currently taking place.
-Beginners come only once a
week for a two-hour session
each Sunday, while the older
students meet either two or
three times a . week for two
hours, depending on their ages.
The Sholem Aleichem School,
located at 18495 Wyoming, em-
phasizes Jewish life, culture,
traditions and customs in its
curriculum, which also includes
the teaching of, Hebrew and
Yiddish. transporation facilities
are available to all parts of the
city.
The school affiliated last year
with the United Hebrew Schools,
yet it still carries out an auto-
nomous program under the di-
rection of its own teaching staff
and school committee.
