Rabbi Wohlgelernter on
Return Trip to U.S.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agen-
cy reports from Tel Aviv that
Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter, of
Detroit, who recently became
general secretary of the Israel
Chief Rabbinate, has left for
the United States to stimulate
closer religious relations be-
tween American congregations
and Israel and to encourage
purchases of Israeli religious
items by Americans.
Rabbi Wohlgelernter will en-
courage use of Israel marble
for new synagogues and greater
purchase of ethrogin, 30,000
having been sold this season.
He brings with him a declara-
tion from. the Israel rabbinate
urging American rabbis to
make pilgrimages to Israel.

Introduces Leaders'
Training Program

Young Israel of Detroit will
inaugurate an institute for boys
and girls of high school and

college age who aim to enter
the field of Jewish group work.
Rabbi Samuel H. Prero, spir-
itual leader of Young Israel,
said this program will supple-
ment the movements' pattern of
work in Detroit which, until
now, consisted of an adult in-
stitute for Jewish studies and a
youth leaders seminar.
The proposed studies will in-
clude courses in basic Jewish
background; philosophy, organ-
ization and functioning of group
work and a study of the State
of Israel and its relation to the
American youth.
The program will consist of
three years' work.

Ahavas Achim Youth
Plan Fall Program

At a board meeting of Ahavas
Achim Youth Group, plans for
the fall schedule of activities
were made, beginning with a
wiener roast Sept. 16, at Lola
Valley Park.
The group will meet at 7:30
p.m., Sept. 11 for a general
meeting, at which plans for the
social will be made final. A
bowling group also is being or-
ganized under the chairman-
ship of Richard Snyder.
Plans for the fall, under the
direction of Terri Faxstein, so-
cial vice-president, include oneg
shabbats, social evenings, out-
ings, educational, cultural and
sports activities.
Mrs. Richard Burns, advisor
to the group, is assisted by Wil-
liam Lite, of the congregation;
Marvin Nelkin, Hy Rossman
and Harold Jeross, of the Men's
Club; and Mrs. Hy Rossman and
Mrs. William Lite, of the Sis-
terhood.

Rabbi Halpern to Speak Beth Yehudah Distributes
on Conservative Judaism Tickets for High Holidays

"The Vitality of Conservative
Judaism" is the topic of Rabbi
Mordecai S. Halpern, spiritual
leader of Cong. Beth Shalom, in
Oak Park, at the first late Fri-
day service of the season.
Services will be held at 8:30
p.m., Aug. 24, at the Tyler
School, Lincoln west of Cool-
idge, and is planned to wel-
come new and prospective mem-
bers of the congregation. A so-
cial hour will follow.
Hostesses for the oneg shab-
bat will be Mesdames Joseph
Gallen, Harold Lipshai.v, Albert
