This fact is responsible for making station wagons the fourth largest selling body style in the industry. Slightly more than 10 per cent of passenger car factory sales last year were station wagons, and evidence points to a continuing demand for this type of unit. According to the Ford Motor Co., which began producing station wagons in 1929, Ford and Mercury station wagons last year accounted for 46 per cent of the entire station wagon market. A Ford spokesman said that in the four years ending in 1955, registrations of Ford sta- tion • wagon' increased from 24,695 to 272,960 units, a jump of over 1,000 per cent.
