JNF Council Again
Issues Its Stamps
For High Holidays

Local and out-state syna-
gogues in Michigan again this
year will attach Jewish Nation-
al Fund stamps to all tickets
purchased for attendance at
High Holy Day services, accord-
ing to an announcement this
week by the J.I\TF' Council.
The stamps for the year 5717
are dedicated to "Teth, Le'Her-
uth Israel," commemorating the
ninth year since the establish-
ment of the new state of Israel
on the fifth day of Iyar, 5708,
May 14, 1948.
Stamps issued by the JNF are
issued as a receipt acknowledg-
ing a contribution to the JNF
program of rand reclamation,
which enables the 'settling of
Jewish immigrants in Israel.
Calling attention to the fact
that in the past eight years
JNF has paved the way for the
establishment of 200 colonies
on the Israel borders, the JNF
Council urged synagogue com-
mittees to utilize the to
decorate the High Holiday- ad-
mission tickets.
Ticket committees which have
not received their stamps or
which require additional stamps
are urged to call the JNF of-
fice, TO 8-7384.

of HUC-JIR, came to naught
when Israel's two Chief Rabbis
refused to permit it. -
Dr. Glueck is a well knoWn
archaeologist who rediscovered
King Solomon's Mines, as well
as a Reform leader.
Dr. Glueck previously agreed
that services would be held
only in the library of the
school, exclusively for students.
He had also agreed, in defer-
ence to Orthodox traditions,
that the students. would pray
with covered heads.
The two Chief Rabbis insisted
that it made no difference
whether services were held in
a library or any ,other room
and that- "wherever a congre-
gation meets for prayer, it is
a synagogue. The time is not
right for the introduction of
Reform services which have the
power of dividing people, who
are already too greatly divided.
It is expected that Dr. Glueck
will appeal to higher govern-
mental authority • if the Jeru-
salem municipality, moved by
the opposition of the two Chief
Rabbis, fails to grant the Arch-
aeological School the right to
hold services in the library.

Turkish Anti-Semite
Begins New Publication

ISTANBUL (JTA)—Turkey's
foremost anti-Semite, D j e v at
Rifat Atilhan, who haS served
several prison terms for anti-
Semitic and ultra-nationalist ac-
tivities and writings, has begun
publishing a new monthly whose
entire stock in trade is anti-

Semitism and anti-Israel propa-
ganda.
The unusual aspect of Atil-

han's new publication, "The
Islamic United Nations," is that
it appears in English. It is
believed that the monthly is
sponsored by Arab circles.

The leading article in the first
issue urges the Arabs to unite
"against all international forces"
including the Jews. A section on
"World Press Comments" con-
sists of culls' of anti -Israel items
from the foreign press.
Atilhan, a retired army
colonel who fought the British
in Palestine in World War I,

tried to recruit a Turkish force
to aid the Arab states in the
Israel War of Independence, but

RABBI HAYIM

failed because of Turkish gov-
ernment opposition. He then
turned to publishing anti-Jewish
and anti-Israel books and news-
papers, which the government
suppresses and for which he is

A MESSAGE TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY
OF DETROIT

Amour nine months ago the Council of Orthodox Rabbis, after
long efforts, took a positive step in the strengthening of Torah
observance in' our city by providing supervised Milk for the
Detroit Jewish Community with the cooperation of the Twin Pines
Farm Dairy, to whom great credit is due for their help in the
matter.

The lack of supervision for milk before this time had always. been
greatly regretted, and its introduction should be eagerly wel-
comed by every member of the community.

We appeal to the, entire community to use the supervised milk,
and we ore confident that our appeal will be heeded.

We wish to stress that according to Jewish law, whenever
supervised milk is available, it should be used instead
unsupervised milk.
.•,

a

It is, therefore, to be hoped that the Cholev Yisorel program
will find the fullest public response.
•
May the devotion to all the principles of Torah merit for our
people divine guidance and strength in our communal undertakings.
