NEW YORK (JTA) — Audi-
ences at 'West Berlin's Opera
have been more moved by Ver-
di's •"Nabucco" — a portrayal
of the captivity of the Jews in
Babylon 2,500 years ago — than
by any other work in the rep-
ortory, it was reported here in
a dispatch to the New York
Times by Harry Gilroy.
The dispatch noted that the
fifth scene of the opera, in
which the high priest Zacahari
as pours out a prophecy that
the Babylonian oppressors will
fall and that the Jews will re-
gain their homeland, is the one
"that draws storms of ap-
plause."
The report of the extraordi-
nary reception which the opera
received in Berlin went on to
note that various explanations
had been put fcirward.
It' said, "These Berliners lived
as adults through the Nazi per-
iod. Many must have had Jew-
- ish friends before the Hitler
time. Quite a few go to the
opera past the ruin of a great
stone synagogue that stands
only 200 yards away on one
of the approach streets."

JCA Grants 75,000 Pounds
to Israel Agricultural School
LONDON, (JTA) — The Jew-
ish. Colonization Association has
decided to grant 50,000 Israeli
pounds toward the operating
budget of the Mikveh Israel
agricultural school in Israel and
25,000 Israeli pounds for mod-
ernization of the school build-
ings.
to permit some 60,000 Jews to
leave for Israel, it was reported
by A. L. Zisu, one of the four
Romanian Jewish leaders who
arrived here for permanent set-
tlement last week.
Zisu said that there are signs
that the Romanian government
has changed its attitude toward
Jewish emigration. It appears
willing to permit the reunifi-
cation of families some of
whose members are already in
Israel. The estimated 60,000 are
in this category.

CARACAS, Venezuela, (JTA)
—The tenth assembly of the In-
ternational Civil Aviation Or-
ganization concluded its meet-
ing here without taking any ac-
tion on an Israeli complaint of
Arab violations of civil aviation
procedures.
Israel had pressed its com-
plaint on the grounds that the
Arabs had withheld flight infor-
mation from planes entering or
leaving Israel, their refusal to
permit such aircraft to fly over
their territory, and their jam-
ming of radio messages.
Moshe Bartur, -tile •Israeli
delegate, asserted that he found
it strange that the international
group should abandon a ques-
tion involving flight safety.
Austria to Return
Property to Ex-Nazis
VIENNA, (JTA) — The Aus-
trian Parliament has passed a
law ordering the return to for-
mer Nazis of property confis-
cated from them by the state as.
punishment when they were
convicted by post - liberation
courts.
It is estimated that of some
10,000 pieces of real estate,
farms and small manufacturing
plants, the state still holds about
1,300. Some 70 percent of these
properties fall under the terms
of the new law and must be
restored to the ex-Nazis.
