There were 300 guests present at a dinner and reception
honoring Harry Louis Gurwin, son of Mr. and Mrs—Samuel
Gurwin, of Woodingham Dr., an his Bar Mitzvah, on July 22,
in the Mayfair Room., on Schaefer. The occasion also served
to honor Mr. and Mrs. Gurwin on their 18th wedding anni-
versary. The Bar Mitzvah was observed a day earlier, at Beth
Abraham Synagogue.
While vacationing at the Grossinger Country Club, Gross-
inger, N. Y., Mr. Jack K. Lewis, of 18450 Wildemere, sank a
hole-in-one on the club's par-three, third hole. •
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kahn and children, Karen, Marci and
Douglas, are now in their new home at 20235 Avon.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Arbit, of 3244 W. Buena Vista, were
recently honored by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
E. White, Mr. and Mrs. Ben A. Magy and Mr. S. Meyer Arbit,
at a surprise 35th wedding anniversary dinner party, held at
the Magy residence. Among the friends and relatives attending
was another son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Saul B.
Arbit, of Milwaukee, Wis.

A goal of 2,000 new members
has been set by the Greater De-
troit Bnai Brith Council for the
coming year, according to an-
nouncement by Albert D. Tuck-
er, who heads the drive.
Over 8,000 members in 23 area
lodges are currently conducting
a summer membership drive,
which will continue into early
fall.
New members signed-up dur-
ing the campaign will comprise
a special "honor class" which
will be presented to Judge Na-
than J. Kaufman at a Bnai
Brith Testimonial Dinner on
Oct. 10.
Bnai Brith, the oldest and
largest Jewish service organi-
zation in the world, will cele-
brate its 113th birthday on
Oct. 13.
At the Supreme Lodge con-
vention in May, the local Coun-
cil was cited for having the
highest percentage of member-
ship of any metropolitan area.
Detroit members seek to main-
tain their leadership by signing
up its full 2,000 quota, Tucker
said.
Tucker is assisted in the drive
by Lawrence Kopel, Jack Gold-
farb, Sam Gottlieb and Leo
Feber. Morris Burnstein and
Philip Spitz head the bowlers
section of the drive, represent-
ing 18 leagues a n d 1,500
bowlers.
