New Child Clinic
Representatives from
11 Southern Oakland County
communities met last week at
Berkley High School to discuss
the establishment of a Child
Guidance Clinic in the . SOC
area.
Elected to posts onthe steer-
ing committee of the group
which will seek ways and
means to organize the clinic
are the following:
Abraham Brickner, 21970
Marlow, Oak Park, chairman;
Benjamin Frank, 25831 Ivanhoe,
Huntington Woods, vice-chair-
man; and Mrs. Burton R. Tab-
bert, 1815 E. 12 Mile, Madison
Heights, secretary.
Communities represented, in
addition to the three named,
are Hazel Park, Lathrop, Fern-
dale, Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge,
Berkley, Southfield and Troy.
Discussion brought out that
over half of the referrals to the
Oakland County Child Guid-
ance Clinic in Pontiac came
from the South Oakland com-
munities.
It was estimated that four of
every 1,000 children need the
services of such a clinic. The
new clinic would begin opera-
tions by July 1, 1957.
Requests will be submitted
to the Oakland County Clinic
and the Michigan Department
of Mental Health for a branch
clinic with a half-time psychi-
atrist, four psychiatric social
workers, two clinical psycholo-
gists and two secretaries.
Membership on the steering
committee, Brickner stressed, is
not limited to those who at-
tended the first meeting, but to
all interested citizens of SOC
communities. For information,
call Brickner, LI. 6-7317.
The next meeting will be held
Aug. 8, in Oak Park.
