Mutual Agreement Need
Seen by Hammarskjold

UNITED N A TIONS, N. Y.,
(JTA)—No new proposals re-
garding the Arab-Israel situa-
tion were put to the Soviet_Gov-
ernment by UN Secretary Gen-
eral Dag Hammarskjold during
his visit to Moscow.
UN officials said that during
his three-day stay in Moscow,
Mr. Hammarskj old merely
"compared notes'? on the Middle
East with Soviet Foreign Min-
ister Dmitri Shepilov. He left
Moscow with the impression
that a settlement could not be
imposed on Israel and the Arab
countries, but must 1e based
on a solution "agreed" to by
both parties.
(In Moscow, Soviet Foreign
Minister Shepilov said he had
confirmed to Mr. Hammarskjold
Soviet willingness to support
United Natiins action in easing
tension in the Middle East, and
that he would be glad to con-
tact the United States, Britain
and France in dealing with the
Arab-Israel problem.)

Poland 'Inclined' to
Allow Jews to Leave

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — The Po-
lish Government was reported
inclined to permit the emigra-
tion of any Jew who wishes to
leave the country. The report
was published in the evening
paper Maariv as coming from
Warsaw.
The Warsaw correspondent of
Maariv—estimated that perhaps
20,000 Jews in Poland may take
advantage of this opportunity
and seek emigration to Israel.
He emphasized that the Polish
Government is not giving any
publicity in the Polish press to
its intention to permit mass
emigration of Jews.

TRAINING COURSE has been
started for inspectors of Michi-
gan Dept. of Agriculture.. with
full emphasis on further en-
forcement of the state law
against using the word "kosher"
except where absolutely so...
Program idea was propelled by
Joe Edelman of Jewish Commu-
nity Council, and is under rab-
binical supervision of local Vaad
Harobbonim . . . Main idea is to
do away with use of kashruth by
eateries and such, whose mis-
representation of "kosher" use-
age has not been completely
controlled . . .- The Vaad Harob-
bonim hasn't enough manpower
among the rabbis to enforce the
law outside the Jewish commu-
nity, hence the stepping in of
the Agricultural Dept. ...There
is also no such thing as "kosher
style" ... The term "Jewish
Style" may be used, although
even this is frowned upon by
the rabbis.

Chancellor Raab Wants
to Annul Anti-Nazi Laws

VIENNA, (JTA) — Chancel-
lor Julius Raab, opening the
new Austrian Parliament, pro-
posed the complete annulment
of anti-Nazi laws passed since
the liberation in 1945. Chancel-
lor Raab, whose People's Party
campaigned on the plank of ft-
storing former Nazis to full
rights, revealed his Cabinet's'
support for the annulment plan.
The Cabinet decided to re-
store to ex-Nazis "Aryanized"
property which hail been taken
from them and returned to vic-
tims of the Nazis who originally )
owned it. This move is expected
to set off a vast campaign by
"Aryanizers," who bough t,
seized or were given property
owned by Jews and other vic-
tims, to recover through the
courts the property which they
held • only during the Nazi re-
gime.

no difference • of opinion be-
tween Sharett and Ben-Gurion
on such questions as orientation
toward East or West, or opposi-
tion to a preventive war.
Sharett told a Mapai rally
here that selective immigration
from North Africa was essential
to the security of Israel. Speak-
ing of Tunisia and Morocco, he
expressed the hope that the
Moslem countries would not use
their freedom to suppress the
aspirations of other nations nor
to. attempt to "uproot Jewish
sentiment and devotion" to Is-
rael.
Pinchas Lavon was unani-
mously elected general secre-
tary of the Histadrut at a meet-
ing of the labor federation exec-
