The walls of their home were
stripped and the paintings were
taken to the Detroit Institute of
Arts, where they were placed
in specially constructed travel-
ing cases for the trip.

Mrs. Cohane is actively en-
gaged in law practice with her
husband, Louis Starfield Co-
hane. She is a graduate of Cor-
nell University where she
helped found Sigma Delta Tau
in 1917. She has held offices in
the Women Lawyers Association
of Michigan and the National
Association of Women Lawyers
and is a member of the Mich-
igan Bar Association. She and
her husband were the first hus-
band and wife to argue a case
before the United States Su-
preme Court.
Mrs. Cohane is a past pres-
ident of the Detroit Section, Na-
tional Council of Jewish Wom-
en, and a former member of the
organization's national boar d.
She was also an executive offi-
cer of the Inter-Group Council
for Women as Public Policy
Makers, the Cornell Women's
Club of Michigan, and was a
chairman of the legislative di-
vision of the Detroit Federation
of Women's Clubs. Currently,
she is a member of the execu-
tive committee of the Jewish
Community Council. She has
published articles in the Na-
tional Women Lawyer's Jour-
nal, the Club Woman, the Torch
of Sigma Delta Tau and the
Detroit News.
Mrs. Cohane was the fifth
woman to receive the National
Achievement Award of Sigma
Delta Tau, the first having been
given in 1938 to the late Mrs.
Hannah Solomon of Chicago,
founder of the National Council
of Jewish Women.
