THE HAGUE, (JTA) — Dr.
Frans M. A. Schokking, Mayor
of The Hague, resigned his post
following a debate in Parlia-
ment of charges that he collabo-
rated with the Nazis during the
occupation.
The basic charge was that
while he was mayor of the vil-
lage of Hazerswoude during the
occupation, Dr. Schokking be-

NEW YORK (JTA) — Naftali
Buchwald, Jewish writer and
member of the editorial staff of
the Jewish Daily Freiheit, died
of a heart attack at the age of
66. Born in the Ukraine, he
came to the United States in
1910, and, after graduating from
New York University, joined the
editorial staff of the J e w i s h
Daily Forward. Later, he left
the Forward for the Freiheit.
He wrote chiefly on Jewish
theater, but also reviewed events
in Jewish life. Last year he
visited Israel.

who perished in the June 30
plane crash- in Arizona, were
held yesterday at Ira Kaufman
Chapel.
Mr. Gottesman, who lived at
26126 Wyomin g, Huntington
Woods, was a graduate of Notre
Dame University and a mem-
ber of the Institute of Radio
Engineers.
He leaves his wife, Elizabeth
J.; a son, David R.; a daughter,
Liza; and his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Gottesman, of

Refugee Commissioner
Dr. Godehart Dies at 55

GENEVA, (JTA)—Dr. J. G.
van Heuven Goedhart, United
Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees, died July 8 of a heart
attack, it was announced at the
opening session of the UN Eco-
nomic and Social Council. He
was 55.
Dr. van Heuven Goedhart
was responsible for a program
which reached into many coun-
tries and which cared for thou-
sands of Jewish refugees. A re-
sistance leader during the Nazi
occupation, Dr. Van Heu-
ven Goedhart was also an edi-
tor and diplomat

Samuel Rivlin, 74, a Detroiter
for many years, died July A, in
Los Angeles, Calif. Services and
burial was in Los Angeles.
Born in Russia, he had lived
in this country for 50 years. He
also had resided in Israel for a
few years.
During his years in Detroit,
he gained a reputation as a
Hebrew and Yiddish scholar. He
was a member of the Farband,
and was a founder of Farband
Camp. He also was active in the
Labor Zionist Movement, Hista-
drut and Hebrew Benevolent
Society.
Mr. Rivlin is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Marion Gorn-
bein, of Detroit; a son, Ephraim,
of Los Angeles; a sister, Mrs.
Dorothy Silverman, of Chicago;
and three grandchildren.

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Dr.
A. Y. Goor, Israel's Forestry
commissioner, has been invited
to visit. Israel as an expert
through the United Nations
Food and Agriculture Organi-
zation.
This is the first time that an
Israeli has been invited to 'visit
