Taking action against the de-
cision of the National Education
Association (NEA) to continue
its program of tourism in coun-
tries which discriminate against
Jews, the Detroit Federation of
Teachers recently sent this wire
to the NEA convention in Port-

land, Ore.:
"It has come to our. atten-
tion that the NEA is sponsoring
tours which require affidavits
as to religious affiliation be-
cause certain Arabic States
covered by the tour refuse to
admit Jews within their bor-

ders.
"The Detroit Federation of
Teachers believes that the dig-
nity and welfare of the entire
teaching profession is jeopar-
dized by imposing conditions
which bar teachers from partici-
pation because of their religion.

"Dedication to democracy does its good offices to secure a re-
not stop at the shoreline of versal of this degrading and

the United States.
"How can we in good con-
science teach democracy and
equality to our school children
and at the same time engage in
such discriminatory practice.
"The i_retroit Federation of
Teachers urges the NEA to use

un-American policy in the
sponsorship of NEA foreign

tours."
A similar protest against the

NEA's action was made public
in behalf of the Flint Federa-
tion of Teachers by its presi-
dent, John E. Velusek.
