Among Victims in Grand Canyon Air Wreck

Walter M. Fuchs, prominent
Detroit Jewish leader, a former
president of the United Jewish
Charities and one of the most
prominent members of Temple
Beth El, was among the vic-
tims in the worst commercial
airline accident on record—the

crash of the two giant TWA and
United airliners, last Saturday.
Mrs. Fuchs, who was with
her husband, was another vic-
tim.
Another Detroiter who died
in the crash was Noel Gottes-
man, of 26126 Wyoming,

Oak Parkers Raise $5,000 for Gutted Church

Mr. and Mrs. Fuchs, whose
home was at 26526 Hendrie,
Huntington Woods, were re-
turning from the 50th anniver-
sary meeting of the National
Blueprinters Association and
were bringing back with them,

The Oak Park Emergency
Fund, formed last winter to
assist in the rebuilding of the
fire-destroyed Lady of Fatima
Catholic C h u r c h, this week
turned over a sum of $2,253.21
to the church.
Speaking for the fund lead-
ers, David Shepherd, one of the
committee members, said the
sum represented part of the
solicitations collected by the
committee. Other contributions,

A memorial meeting for
Mr. and Mrs. Walter M.
Fuchs will be held at Temple
Beth El's Brown Memorial
Chapel at 2 p.m., Sunday.
Rabbi Minard Klein will of-
ficiate. Flowers are to be
omitted.

from Los Angeles, a plaque Mr.
Fuchs received at the conven-
tion, an award for his 50 years
in the business. He was one of
the founders of the association
and was a pioneer in the De-
troit blueprinting field. He was
president of the Detroit Multi-
Color Co.
Mr. Fuchs served as president
of the United Jewish Charities
from 1926 to 1936, and during
his term of office the Jewish
Home for Aged and the D. W.
Simons Branch 'of the United
Hebrew Schools were built. I
Prior to being president of
UJC, he held the offices of sec-
ond and first vice-president. He
served as a member of the
board of governors of the Jew-
ish Welfare Federation and was
one of the incorporators of the
Federation in 1925. At the time
of his death he was a member
of the UJC board.
Surviving Mr. Fuchs are a
son,. Albert; two daughters, Mrs.
Sidney Beigler and Mrs. Amson
Tabor; and four grandchildren,
Susan Fuchs, Anne Fuchs, Mrs.
Joel Hepner. and Mary Anne
Beigler.
Mrs. Fuchs was his second
wife. They were married eight
years ago. She was the widow
of Harry J. L. Frank, one-time
president of Bulldog Electric
Co. Surviving her are two sons,
William H. Frank and Harrison
J. L. Frank; a sister, Mrs. Lewis
Frank; grandchildren, Mrs. Wil-
liam H. Rattler, Mrs. Norman
D. Katz and William H. Frank,
Jr., and two great-grandchil-
dren.
Mr. Fuchs was 74 and Mrs.
Fuchs was 71.
Mr. Fuchs at one time was
a member of the board of
Temple Beth El. He was asso-
ciated with the Masonic Order
and Rotary Clubs.
In tribute to Mr. Fuch's
memory, the flag on the
Jewish Welfare Federation
building is flying at half mast
this week.
Noel Gottesman was return-
ing from a business trip for the
Bendix Aviation Corp. He was
a distinguished 'mathematician
and for a time, prior to asso-
ciating with Bendix, was on the
faculty of Notre Dame Univer-
sity. He was 30 years old. He
is survived by his wife., Eliza-
beth; a daughter, Lisa, 5, and a
son, David, 14 months. He was
the only son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clarence Gottesman, of 19450
Canterbury.

'Hitones' Featured in
Clover Lodge Summer
Theater Performances

Clover Lodge is establishing
an interesting tradition for en-
tertainment — by sponsoring a
summer theater.
Featured in the theater this
year will be the Hitones, an
orchestra composed of four pro-
fessional musicians. They are
music teachers who have played
in the best night clubs in De-
troit. •
Harold Herman, director of
Clover Lodge Summer Theater,
announces that the theatrical
performances will have the par-
ticipation of an outstanding cast
of singers and dancers.

$5,000 was given to church lead-
ers as a result of the campaign.
An "unmeasurable amount" of
good will also was created be-
cause of the drive, he added.
Funds came from all quarters
of Oak Park, from its business-
men and religious leaders to the
private citizen, Shepherd said.
