Friday, June 29, 19 56—THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS-3 Entire Family Reaches U.S. from Germany Morocco May Ease Ban on Emigration to Israel Abraham Kuzecki, 78, is shown with his granddaughter, Sarah, 3, after their arrival re- cently at the New York shelter of United Hias Service, J e w s h inter- national migra- tion agency. Kuzecki fled from Commu- nist Poland in 1950 and found surviving members of his family in a German DP camp. He arrived here together with Sarah, his son, daughter- in-law and three other grand- children after a flight from Munich. The family will leave New York shortly to begin a new life with relatives in Kansas City, Mo. CASA BLANCA, (JTA) — Moroccan authorities were re- ported this week to have indi- cated a willingness to permit the emigration of about 4,000 Jews now in a Casablanca emigra- tion camp and other emigration centers. Even if these emigrants were permitted to leave for Israel however, it would not alleviate the tragedy of thousands more who are affected by the ban on organized emigration, Jewish sources said. The situation became doubly tragic in the light of the total destruction by fire of a large Casablanca warehouse in which the Jewish emigrants had stored all their clothing and heavy luggage for transponation to Israel. These people are now without any belongings—they disposed of their homes and other prop- erty prior to leaving for Casa- blanca. Efforts to secure the release of the interned Jews as well as the subsequent emigration of thousands more who are af- fected by the ban on emigration to Israel issued by the Moroc- can government, are being car- ried on at all levels of the world Jewish community. A deputation of North African settlers in Israel has asked Premier David Ben-Gurion to discuss action in behalf of the Jews remaining in North Africa. It is felt that the situation re- quires emergency measures in order to help those Jews who may be endangered by the rising tide of Arab Nationalism in the area. The World Jewish Congress also seeks to convince Moroccan authorities to permit the emigr- ation of other Moroccan Jews who have liquidated their homes in anticipation of leaving for Israel. Negotiations are being con- ducted for the issuance of in- dividual passports to some or all Jews caught by the ban on collective emigration. Philip M. Klutznick, president of Bnai Brith who was in Mor- occo when the government ban on mass emigration was an- nounced, proposed this week as an interim procedure: 1. A reasonable extension of time to Kadimah to continue its operation; 2. the expeditious processing for emigration of the more than 2,000 persons in Confirm Community the camp; 3. the establishment of an interim procedure to ex- Workers' Shortage pedite the processing of the WASHINGTON, FJ T A ) — estimated 5,000 to 7,000 who Confirmation of a serious have liquidated their homes and shortage of trained workers in belongings. the various fields of Jewish communal service is provided in a study just completed by South Indian Jewry the Bnai Brith Vocational Serv- Emigrating to Israel ice Bureau, it was announced NEW YORK, (WJA) — Em- here.
