Teachers Protest NEA Tours
Discriminating Against Jews

NEW YORK, (..ITA)—The
Jewish Teachers Association has
protested to the National Edu-
cation Association the latter's
organization of four world tours
for teachers, from which Jews
are barred because of objections
of Arab governments through
whose territories the tourists
would travel.
The group expressed "shock"
and "concern" over the "sup-

and un-American practice" by

NEA did not fully investigate

Smuts' Aid to Jews
Revealed in New Book

Against the background of the
current crisis in the Middle
East, a striking reminder of the
declarations of commitment of
the Western democracies to the
.lewish cause in Palestine is
given in a new book which inti-
mately reveals the outspoken
pro-Israel views of the late
Prime Minister of South Africa,
Jan Christian Smuts.
Describing Prime Minister
Smuts as "the only great man
in the world who passionately
stood for the Jews," Sarah Ger-
trude Millin, South African Jew-
ess who gained international
fame as a novelist and biogra-
pher of Smuts, discloses in her
autobiography, "The Measure of
My Days," h o w Smuts de-
manded that the Western pow-
ers fulfill their promises to
Israel.
In her autobiography, pub-
lished b y Abelard-Schuman,
Inc., Mrs. Millin quotes Gen.
Smuts:
"Whether I am in South Af-
rica or London, or wherever I
may be in the future, I will
serve the cause, not because it
is a Jewish cause, but because
it is a great human cause." He
had called the Balfour Declara-
tion "one of the greatest vows
in history."
