ing chairmanship of the Israel

Council, Phillip Stolh -nan issued
an appeal to community leaders

members of the community to
back the Holy Day appeal.
He called attention to the fact
that "Security Month for Is-
rael" is drawing to a close and
the early dates of the High Holy
Days in urging immediate sup-
port for the Bond efforts.

GENEVA, (JTA)—The Swiss
government has refused to per-
mit the establishment of an
Arab propaganda office here.
Arab diplomats in this city have
taken no pains to conceal their
indignation at the turn of
events.
The request for permission to
open an "information office"
coincided with the creation of
a permanent Egyptian delega-
tion at the European headquar-
ters of the United Nations.
Since then the comings and
goings of various Arab notables
has fairly clearly indicated the
nature of their activities.
Some time back, the Swiss au-
thorities refused to, permit the
holding of a meeting of repre-
sentatives of Western European
Jewish communities to pledge
their support to Israel.

BEERSHEBA (JTA)—Lionel
Hampton, known to thousands
of jazz-admiring fans as "The
Hamp," got the strangest gift
of his career this week from a
fan in Israel.
The grateful fan is Sheikh
Suleiman el Huse'il, a Beduin
leader of Shoval, near here,
and the gift was a camel.
The Sheikh and the jazz
king, who is now packing them
in on_ his second tour of this
country, exchanged autographs.
The Sheikh also expressed dis-
appointment that he couldn't
meet the whole band, but
Hampton explained that they'd
gone directly to Beersheba for
two performances because they
were tired.
Then Sheikh Suleiman
bought out a whole row of
tickets for himself and his
friends so they'd be sure to
hear the band. And it wasn't
easy, because the two Beer-
sheba concerts were strictly
standing room only affairs.

Supreme Court Upholds
City Land Sale to Home

BOSTON (JTA) — The Su-
preme Court has affirmed a de-
cision based on the legislative
act giving the Park Depart-
ment of the City of Boston the
right to sell a portion of land
in West Roxbury to the He-
brew Home for the Aged here.
The proposed sale of city land
to a private institution had
been the subject of litigation
for some time.
A new building for the home
to house the aged and infirm of
the Jewish community here
will be erected on the newly-
acquired land. The home's pres-
ent structure had long been
described as inadequate for the
many who sought admission.

Israel, Yugoslavia Sign
$11,000,000 Trade Pact

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Israel
and Yugoslavia have signed an
$11,000,000 trade agreement, the
fourth since the establishment
of the Jewish State.
The pact provides for a bar-
ter arrangement in which
Yugoslavia will exchange $5,-
500,000 worth of timber, metals,
chemicals and agricultural
products for similarly valued
Israeli citrus products, tires,
textiles and pharmaceuticals.
Last year's pact provided for
an exchange of only $7,000,000
worth of goods.

First copies of the new edition in full color of The Hagga-
dah, designed and illustrated by the late Arthur Szyk, and
published in Israel will be awarded to synagogues achieving a
high level of activity in behalf of State of Israel Bonds at the
High Holiday services ushering in the year 5717. The illustra-

talent which make this a masterpiece comparable with the
finest Haggadahs of the Middle Ages, when every copy was a

of the people of Israel.
