SHOLEM ALEICHEM DAY CAMP

In view of the fact that

Round Table Faces
Loss of Property
Bequeathed by Siegels

The Detroit Round Table of
Catholici, Jews and Protestants
this week sought a workable
plan to keep the use of its
present quarters at 150 W. Bos-
ton.
The property was left to the
Round Table in the will of
Mrs. Sophie Siegel, widow of
the late businessman, Benja-
min Siegel.
Last week the City Planning
Commission unanimously mov-
ed that the property could not
be used by the Round Table
because it would be "contrary
to the spirit of the zoning or-
dinance." -
Opposition to the use of the
building by the Round Table
was voiced by the Boston-Edi-
son Protective Association,
which felt the use of the prop-
erty as Round Table headquar-
ters would be a signal to com-
mercial enterprises to enter the
area, which is zoned for single
dwellings.
Dr. Robert Frehse, Round Ta-
ble director, said he thought
"friendly ways to seek accord"
were still not exhausted, but
mentioned the possibility of
appeal to either the Common
Council or Recorder's Court as
a last resort.
He said that members of the
Boston-Edison Association were
in sympathy with the Round
Table's plight, but genuinely
feared the possibility of com-
mercial encroachment.
