LONDON — Dr. Geoffrey
Fisher, Archbishop of Canter-
bury and head of the Church of
England, was host Tuesday at
a garden party at Lambeth
Palace to mark the Tercenten-
ary of the return of the Jews to
England. One thousand guests
attended the affair which was
under auspices of the Council
of Christians and Jews of which
the Archbishop is senior presi-
dent.
A unique feature of the recep-
tion, was the fact that it was
catered under the supervision
of the Kashruth commission, a
precedent for an affair at the
home of the head of the Angli-
can - Church. Among the guests
were Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie,
Israel Ambassador Eliahu Elath,
members of the British govern-
ment, high church officials, sen-
ior judges, Jewish and non-
Jewish personalities in field of
arts and Jewish communal lead-
, ers. At an informal ceremony,
:Viscount Samuel, head of the
Tercentenary Council, present-
. ed the Archbishop with a special
commemorative medal struck
for the Tercentenary.
In a letter to the Council of
Christians and Jews, Queen
Elizabeth's private secretary ex-
pressed Her Majesty's interest
in the garden party and noted
that in these days, when prin-
ciples of religious and racial
toleration are challenged in so

FRANKFURT, (JTA) —
Frankfurt University has em-
barked on a five-year series of
lectures on Jewish history, cul-
ture and religion under the
Philosophy Faculty of the Uni-
versity. The series has been
made possible by a bequest in
the will of the late Eda Kuhn
Loeb, of New York.
In a letter to the Glasgow
Board of Schechita, the Chief
Rabbi noted that it is not a
practice to grant such a license
to a non-Jew where a commun-
ity has a Jewish butcher. But,
the letter continued, he was pre-
pared to make an exception if
his conidtions were met. A
member of the Board of Schech-
ita commented that the decision
would make history in this com-
munity.

THE NEW ACTIVITIES BUILDING
Rotbart, Israeli
Guest, Confident
of State's Future
An Israeli visitor, here for a
few days' stay last week, ex-.
pressed confidence that his
country will overcome all ob-
stacles in the present crisis.
Baruch Rotbart, of Achdut
Yaacov, Israel, visited here
with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs.
M. Goldoftas, of 18041 Schaef-
fer, prior to his return to Israel.
He has been in this country
since January, having spent the
past few months studying Am-
erican methods of advanced
farming, especially in growing
cotton and sugar beets.
Mr. Rotbart made his studies
on the farm of Sam Hamburg,
in Los Angeles. His visit here
was made possible by the Israel
Department of Agriculture, with
the aid of Mr. Hamburg.
Mr. Rotbart said that while
his countrymen are aware of
the dangers that exist today
from the Arabs, and while there
is countrywide prayer for peace,
work is being carried on with
confidence and with a feeling
that even the severest attacks
will be overcome.
His settlement Achdut Yaa-
cov, was the center of division
between Mapai and Achdut
Avodah, and the controversy
was settled by a division of
the kibbutz into two sections,
among the contending forces,
the Mapai and the more leftist
group, which nevertheless is
not affiliated with Mapam.
Now, Mr. Rotbart states, there
is a more friendly feeling
among the two elements and
cooperation has been restored.
