Israel, Zionist Issues Here, Monday

"The key meeting of. the

of the public rally of the Zion-
ist Organization of Detroit, to
be held Monday evening, at the
Esther Berman Branch of the
United Hebrew Schools, Schaef-
fer at Seven 'Mile Rd.
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, who
is being drafted for the presi-
dency of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America, will be guest
speaker.
The appearance here of Dr: -
Neumann, a former ZOA pres-
ident and one of the most dis-
tinguished Jewish leaders of
our time, lends great impor-
tance to Monday's meeting,"
Rabbi Moses • Lehrman, retiring
ZOD president under whose
leadership the meeting was ar-
ranged, stated this week. Rab-
bi Lehrman expressed the hope
that a capacity audience will
hear Dr. Neumann's evalua-
tions of the present Zionist and
Israeli conditions.
Milton Mar wil, incoming
ZOD president, extended an in-
vitation to all who are inter-
ested to attend Monday's meet-
ing.

$5,000,000 Foundation For
Hebrew Education Is Urged
NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
organization of an American
Tarbut (Cultural) _ Foundation
to promote Hebrew education
and culture in the United
States with an initial fund of
$5,000,000 was urged by Dr.
Emanuel Neumann, member of
the Jewish Agency executive,
at a dinner marking the 35th
anniversary of the Hadoar, a
Hebrew weekly.
"The rise of- Israel," Dr. Neu-
mann stressed, "cannot have its
full impact on our life nor
produce the hoped for Jewish
renaissance in the Diaspora
without the medium of Hebrew
language and literature. The
unity of the Jewish people and
of the scattered Jewish com-
munities must be cemented by
`Hebraic mortar.' "

OSE To Expand In
Latin America
MEXICO CITY, (JTA) — A
decision to establish a central
OSE office for Latin. America
in Mexico and intensify Jewish
health work in Latin American
countries was adopted at the
four-day Pan-American . OSE
conference held here.

"The Lachish Story" will be
presented by the United Jew-
ish Appeal over the NBC net-
work, Sunday, 1.30 to 2 p.m. It
will be carried there by WWJ-
TV.

tizes the human problems in-
volved in the historic "Ship to
Settlement" program for new
immigrants in Israel.
Filmed on location in Frarice,
North Africa and Israel,. "The
Lachish Story" tells of a group
of immigrants who emerge from
the misery of North Africa
ghettos to make a new life for
themselves in the undeveloped
terrtories of Israel.
