Israel Complains to UN
On Egyptian Seizure of
Ship Bound for Elath
UNITED NATIONS, N. Y.
(JTA)-Israel has complained
to the Security Council that
Egypt has violated a Council
resolution on freedom of Israeli
shipping through the Suez
Canal by seizure of several
Greek and Italian ships bound
for Israeli ports. Egypt's action
according to the letter, "appears
to be of a special gravity when
the Security Council has just
reaffirmed once again the need
for the re-establishment of full
compliance with the general
armistice agreement."
The protest reveals that a
Greek vessel, S.S. Panngia,
which arrived at Port Said from
Haifa on May 25 with a cargo
of cement for disci-large at the
Israeli port of Elath, is still
being detained at Port Said. The
ship's master is being confined
to his ship so that he may not
go ashore and make proper ar-
rangements in regard to his
journey or cargo. The protest
also details several other Egyp-
tian detentions of Greek and
Italian shipping bound for Is-

STAMP COLLECTOR
Noted Actors Return
Many scores • of Detroiters
again are planning to attend the
Stratford Shakespearean Fes-
tivals, in Stratford, Ontario, and
a considerable number will be
present on the opening nights.
The Festival officially opens
Monday evening, with "Henry
V." Tuesday evening will be
opening night for "The Merry
Wives of Windsor."
A number of the actors who
distinguished themselves in pre-
vious years are returning to
Stratford in these performances.
Among them are several able
Jewish participants.
Lloyd Bochner, of Toronto,
appears in both plays-as "Bur-
gundy" in "Henry V" and as
"Rugby" in "Merry Wives."
William Shatner, of Toronto,
also plays in both productions-
as • "Gloucester' in "Henry V"
and "Fenton" in Merry Wives."
Louis Negin, of Toronto, plays
two roles in "Henry V."
Sharon Acker and Max Help-
mann also have roles in both
plays.
Louis Applebaum directs the
Stratford Music Festival, which
is to run from July 7 to Aug. 11.
There will be a Jazz Concert
July 13. ,
A plan to film the entire First
Folio of Shakespeare in color
was announced by A. M. Bell,
president of the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival Foun-
dation, a n d film producer,
Leonid Kipnis, whose company
has just completed filming the
Stratford Festival version of
"Oedipus Rex."
Mr. Kipnis, who has made
such outstanding art films as
"Leonardo da Vinci" and "Van
Gogh," said that the - association
will be formed not with the aim
of using Shakespeare as the
basis for a screen play, but
rather to film the complete text,
using, where feasible, stage pro-
duction as the interpretive basis
of the films. He said that the
concept of the Stratford Festival
stage is central to the film pro-
duction.
Stratford Festival director of
planning, Tom Patterson,
worked closely with Mr. Kipnis
and his associate, Judge Samuel
E. Friedman, on the organizing
of the filming of "Oedipus Rex."
