The JNF Council, in its state- ment, pointed out that "a grow- ing tree is a living tribute to every father. Let trees in Israel honor or memorialize him." In addition to serving as a gift, the planting of trees helps in the afforestation of the land in Israel, the statement said. Redemption and reclamation of the land in-israel -.is vital for two principal reasons, the statement pointed out: the re- construction of the land to fer- tility and for protecting the in- habitants of Israel settlements from infiltrators.
