Bonds to Kick-Off Drive With
`Security Dinner for Israel'
A "Security Dinner for Is-
rael" will kick-off intensified
Israel Bond efforts during the
month of June, it was an-
nounced this week by the De-
troit Bond office.
The dinner, to be chaired by
Louis Berry, will be held on
Tuesday, in, the Wayne Room
of the Statler Hotel. The pro-
gram will be the opening event
for the month of June, which
has been designated "Security
Month for Israel."
The opening Bond event will
serve to honor
Phillip Stoll-
man 1954 - 55
chairman of
the Bond drive,
and install Ir-
win I. Cohn
as chairman of
this year's
campaign.

tiveness of the
campaign as

of the Israel Bond board of
governors.
Dr. Gioia Josephthal, Jewish
Agency treasurer.; and Shimon
Peres, director-general of the
Israel Ministry of Defense,
spoke for Premier David Ben-
Gurion, stressing the import-
ance of reaching a minimum
figure • of -$10,000,000 by June
30.
Detroit's share of the national
quota, Berry said, is $375,000 in
cash by the June 30 deadline.
Detroit delegates at the par-
ley were David Safran,
man of the local steering com-
mittee; Mrs. Charles Milan, Wo-
men's Division chairman; Mor ,-
ris L. Schaver, executive com-
mittee member; and Manfred L.
Minzer, Jr., city Bond manager.
Abraham. Feinberg, president
of the Development Corporation
for Israel, will be guest speaker
at Tuesday's dinner, which will
be preceded by a cocktail hour
at 6:30 p.m., in the. Statler's Bag-
ley Room.
Trustees, guardians and other
Bond- purchasers have been in-
vited to the dinner with their
wives to muster support for Is-
rael's request.
The dinner coincides with the
second anniversar y of the
founding of guardians and spon-
sors of Israel. Guardians are
annual purchasers of a $1,000
Bond, and sponsors are women
who make annual purchases in
a like amount.

Women's Bond Seminar Here, June 4

(JTA)—An encouraging note to
Security Council Dag Hamrnar-
skjold's unfinished business was
sounded here last week as word
of agreement from both Israel
and Egypt with regard to the
placement of United Nations ob-
serVers in fixed posts on both
sides of the frontier was re-
ceived.
Mr. Hammarskj old made
known that the number of UN
military observers would be
increased by one-third, with 21„
new military officers joining
the 40 already present"
The two reports came as en-
ergetic steps were being taken
to convene the Security Council
on the "Palestine question."
With a solid point of agree-
ment on the observers having
been obtained, members of the
Council felt it was time to con-
vene to vote official thanks to
Mr. Hamrharskjold for his
achievements. to date, to request
the Secretary General to con-
tinue his efforts to reduce ten-
sions, and to ask Israel and the
neighboring Arab states to con=
tinue to cooperate in the reduc-
tion of tension along the armis-

of Israel in Chicago, will ad-
dress the women's group during
the afternoon session. The Semi-

The Monday Seminar, "Inside
Israel's Borders," is open to all
women in the community. A
group of eight panelists will
present the aims of the Israel

observers, Mr. Hammarskjold
declared that Australia, Canada,
New Zealand, Norway and
Sweden have 'appointed• the of-
ficers, ranging in rank from
captain to colonel, to act as
U.N. .observers on each side of
the Egypt-Israel demarcation
line along - the Gaza strip. The
21 newly-appointed military
m6n will become part of a
team already in the area, under
command of Maj. Gen. E. L. M.
Burns. The 40 observers now on
Gen. Burns' team have come
from Belgium, France, Den-
mark, Sweden and the United
States. •

Mr. Ben-Hahn was born' in
Berlin, Germany in 1923 and
moved to Palestine in 1933,
where he received his educa-
tion. During the, war he served
in the Jewish Settlements Po-
lice Force. In 1945 he was ap-
pointed admillistrative assistant
in charge of the re-integration
of World War II Veterans in
- the Southern part of Palestine.
At the outbreak of hostilities
in 1948, Mr. Ben-Haim. was ac..

of the Israeli Ministry of De-
fense. In 1949 he was appointed
Deputy Secretary General of
the newly established Ministry
of Supply and Rationing. In
1950 he entered the foreign
' service and was appointed sec-
retary of the Israel Legation for
the Scandinavian Countrie, in
charge of press and information.
He returned to Israel in 1953 as
Principal assistant in the eco-
•nomic diVision of - the Ministry
for Foreign Affairs.
In February, 1956, Mr. Ben-
Haimwas appointed Consul 'of
