The convention will begin
with Special services this eve-
ning, at Cong. Ahavas Achim,
with Rabbi Jacob M. Chinitz
officiating.

Deny Request
to Aid Ex-Nazis
The Jewish War Veterans has
refused a request from a Ger-
man vegans group to use their
"influence with Congress, the
American Government and'peo-
ple to find.a charitable solution"
to the problem of 21 soldiers
now being detained in the U.S.
Army's Landsberg Prison.
The German veterans' group
(Verband D e r Heimkehrer,
Kriegsefangenen Und Vermis-
sten-Angehorigen Deutschlands
E. V.) had appealed to the Jew-
ish War .Veterans to intervene
in the case of the 21 former
German soldiers on the grounds
that "most of them have done
nothing more than any soldier
on either side did in the heat
of battle. All were sentenced at
a time when bitter war hatred
dominated military courts and
personnel."
In a letter to the Secretary-
General of the German organi-
zation from JWV's national
commander Ruben Kaminsky of
Hartford, Conn., it was pointed
out the JWV finds it impossible
to *take favorable action, indi-
cating that "these men are re-
sponsible for the death and de-
struction of millions of innocent
humans, and that yariouS boards
active on their appeals, have
commuted the sentences from
death—a merciful one in corn-
prison with the tortures which
they inflicted.

10 Moroccan Jews
Held for Ransom
CASABLANCA, (JTA)—Ten
Jews were kidnapped in East-
ern Morocco within a 48-hour
period in a resurgence of activ-
ity by the underground "Moroc-
can Liberation Army" that has
left a number of people dead
and has taken some 15 persons
prisoner, it was reported here.
Six Jews were abducted in
Oujda, five from their shops
and one from his home. The
other kidnapped Jews were
taken in the Fez area. One Jew,
identified as Aziza, a grocer,
has already been freed.
Reacting to the campaign of
which Jews were the chief vic-
tims, Jewish-owned shops in
Oujda have closed in protest.
Telegrams demanding action to
free the Jews have been sent
to the Sultan of Morocco, Mo-
roccan Premier Sidi Bekkai
and French High Commission-
er J. Dubois.
The five other Jews abducted
in Oujda, and presumably held
for ransom, have been identi-
fied as: Lascar, a small shop-
keeper Benchetrit, another
small shopkeeper; Ben Sassoun,
a hardware merchant, Ben Sa-
moun, a furniture dealer, and
Elbaz, a grain merchant.
Lexington, Mass., scene of
the first battle of the Revolu-
tion, was originally known as
Cambridge Farms.
