Spevalzow-Friedlandei Women's League Presents Rosenberg
Rites Set for ji4y 29 Youth Awards at Animal Meeting

MISS JOAN SPEVAKOW

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Speva-
kow, of 20003 Renfrew, an-
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Joan Deborah, to Sel-
wyn M. Friedlander, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Eli Friedlander, of
Chicago, Ill.
Miss Spevakow attended the
University of Michigan, and re-
ceived her bachelor of arts de-
gree from Wayne University.
Her fiance is a graduate of the
University of Illinois.
The couple is planning to wed
on July 29.

To Brandeis As§ociates

Frank J. Winton, president of
the Detroit Chapter, Brandeis
University Associates, this week
announced the appointment of
10 new members of the board
of trustees.
They are Gerald Avison, Ches-
ter Colen, Saul Dunitz, Saul Fel-
sot, Arthur Howard, Milton
Howard, Irving Rose, Bernard
Siegel, Rudy Simons and Paul
Zuckerman.
Brandeis University, eight-
year-old, non - sectarian school
under Jewish auspices at Wal-
tham, Mass., is largely supported
by funds raised by associate
chapters throughout the coun-
try.

Presentation of the Mildred
Simons Rosenberg Youth
Awards apd installation of of-
ficers will highlight the annual
meeting of the League of Jew-
ish Women's Organizations at
8:30 p.m., Thursday. The pro-
gram will be held in the Esther
Berman Bldg., Schaefer and 7
Mile Rd.
The youth awards will be
presented by Mrs. Robert Cog-
gan, awards chairman, to Judy
Stutz, winner of the silver men-
orah, and Ronald Benson, who
will receive a silver menorah.
The Rosenberg Youth Awards,
presented annually by the
League to the outstanding young
man and woman in the city,
is based on overall achievement
in school, religious school, or-
ganizational a n d individual
leadership.
Honorable mentions will be
_given to Risha Cohen, Barbara
Goldsmith, Sharon Fox, Ronald
Bassey, Allen -Croll and Daniel
Cohn.
Judges of the contest were
Nathan J. Kaufman, Juvenile
Court Judge; Huldah Fine,
Hampton School prinicipal;

Louis LaMed, creator of the
LaMed Literary Awards and the
LaMed Professorship of Jewish
Studies at Wayne University,
and Frank Simons, city editor,
Detroit Jewish News.
Officers of the League who
will be installed by Mrs. David
Kliger, a past president of the
organization, are:
Mesdames Philip Bernstein,
president; Philip Fealk, Maurice
Garelik, Cy Aaron and Louis
Kazdan, vice-presidents; Sam
Samuels, Hy Burnstein ; Joseph
Viedrah and Sam Wasserman,
secretaries; Mark Benach, trea-
surer; and Nathan Spevakow,
parliamentarian.
The program additionally will
feature 14-year-old Frances
Cooperman, a student of Mar-
guerite Kozenn Chaj es, who
will sing arias and songs by
Mozart, Puccirri and Chajes.
She will be accompanied by
Dorian Hyshka.
Mrs. Bernstein will give her
annual president's report on
League accomplishments during
the past year. A social hour will
conclude the meeting, at which
the Detroit Council of Pioneer
Women will serve as hostesses.

TIKVAH CHAPTER will
celebrate its 10th annual instal-
lation6 of officers with a lunch-
eon at 12 noon, Tuesday, at
Carl's Chop House. Tickets may
