Festive Weekend to Highlight
Rabbi Homnick's Installation

By the Oak-Woodser
Young Israel Center of Oak-
Woods has chosen the weekend
of April 27 to 29—its first an-
niversary celebration—for the
formal installation of its young
and energetic spiritual leader,
Rabbi Yaakov I. Homnick.
Festivities for the weekend
will center around honors and
tributes to be given Rabbi
Homnick, who has been rabbi
of the congregation and prin-
--cdpal of its religiods school
since September, 1954.
Under his personal super-
vision and administration, the
synagogue's nursery, Hebrew
and Sunday schools were or-
ganized.• The classes now
number 200 children with an-
other 100 on the waiting list.
During the past year, since
the construction of the build-
ing, the congregation's mem-
bership has tripled, and it has
added substantially to the
membership of its affiliated
Sisterhood, Men's Club and
Youth Group.
The anniversary celebration
also will be the occasion for
announcement of plans to ex-
pand the facilities of the con-
gregation to include a new wing
for school children.
Construction on the new pro-
ject is expected to begin
shortly. When completed, it is
expected to relieve the waiting
list to the school considerably.
Rabbi Homnick came to
Detroit after a year of travel
and 'field work in Israel.
There, he was director of the
Yeshiva Zichron Chaim in
