of serving the Jewish public
and have properly handled all -
foods in accordance with dietary
laws. Mr. Cottler said:
"It is with a sense of shock
and disappointment that we
learned of the distribution of
handbills and of announcements
in synagogues maligning our
good 'name in connection with
the sale of kosher tongues. We
had secured an - allotment of
kosher tongues that carried the
`plombe' and the brand with
the ascertainment by a respon-
sible rabbi that the tongues
were kosher.
"Nevertheless, the . names of

a libelous misrepresentation and
we insist upon a proper apology
from those who perpetraXed that
act against us. At the same

tect them in proper handling

Pearson's topic will be "Be-
hind-the Scenes in Our Foreign
Affairs," a topical discussion of
the current struggle in the Near
East and relevant factors per-
taining to 1956 as an election
year.
Although born in Evanston,
Ill., Pearson spent his boyhood.
in Swarthmore, Pa., where his
father was a speech professor
at Swarthmore College.
He was educated at Phillips
Exeter Academy and Swarth-
more where he made Phi Beta
Kappa, edited the college news-
paper and served in the Offi-
cers' Training Corps at the end
of World War I.
In the years after graduation
he was in Government service
and teaching. In the mid-1920's
he began a series of world tours,
writing free lance articles for
various publications.
In 1926 he was foreign editor
of United States Daily, and in
1928 he accompanied Secretary
of State Kelogg to Paris and
Dublin and President Coolidge
to Havana.
He joined the staff of the
Baltimore Sun in 1929, from
which he was fired after two
books by himself and Robert
S. Allen, "Washington Merry-
Go-Round" and "More Merry-
Go-Round" gave hitherto untold
inside stories on politicians and
members of society.
It was through the Pearson-
Allen partnership, however, that
the daily column of the same
name was started. It has been
going since Dec. 13, 1932, and
has won numerous awards and
recognition. In recent years,
Pearson has been the sole author
of the column.
After World War II, Pearson
organized the Friendship train,
which rolled through 'every
state in the country and wound
