Elmer H. Ripley, one of the
great teachers in American bas-
ketball for more than 25 years,
arrived in Israel to spend a
year teaching basketball and
conducting clinics for the youth
of that nation. The engagement
of the former Original Celtic
star and coach of Notre Dame,
Georgetown, Y a 1 e, Columbia
and U.S. Military ACademy bas-
ketball squads to go to Israel
is sponsored by the U.S. Com-
mittee for Sports in Israel. Mr.
Ripley's teaching mission in
Israel has been facilitated by
the International Educational
Exchange Services of the
United States Department of
State.

ballhandling techniques prior to
and during the early parts of
the season.
Before this Ripley had en-
joyed great success as a coach
at Georgetown, Yale, Columbia,
Notre Dame, John Carroll and
West Point. In his 25 years as
a college hoop mentor, Ripley
developed more • than two full
teams' of All-America perform-
ers.
While in. Israel, the educa-
tional facilities, including film
and movie apparatus, of the
U. S. Embassy, will be made
available to Ripley.

Middle East problems will
receive the emphasis for study
by the third intercultural travel
seminar to Europe and the Holy
Land organized annually by the
National Conference of ChriS-
tians and Jews for American
religious leaders and educators.
The tour, to be held from
June 25 to August 8,. -leaves
New York via Trans World 'Air-
lines and includes visits to Lon-
dim, 'Berlin, Vienna, Istanbul;
Cairo, . Israel, Athens, Rome,
Geneva and Paris: It will be led
by Oscar L. Gustafson, Kansas
City regional director of the
National Conference.
During three weeks of the
travel period, the group will be
in the Middle East for close-uP
study of _its political, social and
religious problems.
"We will confer with both
Arab and Israeli leaders to ob-
tain all points of view on the-
tensions that separate the people
in this area and prevent the
good human relations in which
we are interested," Mr. Gustaf-
son said. "Americans are de-
voted to the Holy Land and
want to help it develop with
justice to all who live there.
This requires a deep under-
standing of the • problems and
the people."
In Berlin, the seminar will get
a view of East-West hostilitieS
and will tour both East and
West Berlin. While in this city,
the group will confer with
Bishop Otto Dibelius and Bishop
Wilhelm Weskam and observe
the program of the World
Brotherhood organization.

cation of a White Book on the
negotiations between Sweden
and Nazi Germany in 1945 for
the rescue of persecuted Jews.
